Sony revealed the PlayStation 4 recently, initiating gamer debate about the console's graphical capabilities and "power".

Linus Blomberg, CTO and Co-founder Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche Studios has added a little fuel to the debate, saying Sony's new console will out-perform PC power "for years to come".

Speaking with Gaming Bolt, Blomberg says the console market desperately needs a boost to counter the PCs ever-evolving hardware capabilities. The PS4 can initiate that boost, he says.

“The consoles desperately need a boost since having been overtaken in terms of performance by PC’s several years ago, and also losing market share to mobile platforms," he said.

The console presents interesting opportunities for a developer like Avalanche Studios, a company that focuses exclusively on open-world games.

“It’s a perfect fit for the types of games we do, and we are confident that we’ll bring open-world gaming to a whole new level because of it."

Shockingly, and sure to feel the ire of PC gamers the world over, Blomberg says the PS4 is powerful enough to smoke PC.

"I’m glad Sony decided to go with 8gb RAM because it means that the PS4 will out-power most PC’s for years to come."

PC gamers: chill out! PS4 gamers: is nice! Do you think PS4 can sustain "years" worth of being more powerful than PC?

CTO and founder.  It isn't like he is actually a developer.  He works on the business side of the studio, and he's made it painfully obvious he doesn't understand the first thing about either the PS4 or a PC.  I don't think even the slowest developers out there actually think:

 

A. 8GB of RAM will be available to developers

 

B. 8GB of RAM will allow it to come anywhere near besting a PC now much less any time in the future.  It isn't all about the RAM, and Wii U and 720 and any PC have better RAM hierarchies than PS4.

Even if they do have the capability to make a game that out perform PC it's not likely they will use it to their advantage.

Man just cause two devs are real pachters!
I can see it doing some good things but it will not out power my i7 3.6 GHZ CPU with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 GPU that can do 2.7 Terraflops and it will not touch my 32 gigs of RAM.

Hah I would have to cut my gpu clicks on half, loosen up my RAM timings, to come down to the ps4s level. I would still smoke it anyway, though.

No, they mean PC as a game platform.  What PC is capable of is dependent on each individual hardware configuration, but the PS4 couldn't compete with the power of a mainstream gaming PC.
