I'm planning to get a 1 TB external hard drive for my Wii U and I wanted to know what the best brand would be. Price, reliability, compatibility, etc.

Just fyi I'm using my Seagate 1tb expansion portable hard drive, which I had been using for Wii game backups before I bought my Wii U.

Seagate is the best option. They have a five year limited warranty on there external HDD, assuming they haven't changed that of course.

I say go for Toshiba, they are cheaper than the other brands but still a quality company. I have a 500GB Toshiba and works perfectly with a Y cable and doesn't need a seperate power source. Wii U powers it itself.

Nintendo even recommend Toshiba in their compatibility list on their website, good luck.

My Hitachi one has worked flawlessly since the day I got it, even using a y cable.

Not when it comes to hard drives. Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor and LaCie are all far better.

This, if your going to buy a brand new one stick with one of these brands, although I'm not a huge Maxtor fan as I've had 2 of them fail, my experience with the others have been positive.

I'd recommend the Toshiba branded external hard-drives, I haven't had a problem with them before.

Use a Seagate. I heard Western Digital is good too but I never owned one.

They are by no means perfect. No brands are but overall they are the best and most reliable brands. Certainly Seagate, LaCie and Western Digital are all quality brands and I've had no bad experiences myself with Maxtor hard drives either.
