Recently my 3ds stopped charging reliably. I noticed the system never had a full charge coming off the cradle, and would fail to charge consistantly when directly plugged in. The charging light would flicker off and on, and i had to move the loose feeling plug end around to get it to charge.

Observing how i could move the entire socket assembly by wiggling the plugged in cable, I came to one conclusion.

With monster hunter just released this was an entirely unacceptable situation!!! Something had to be done!!!

I figured one of the saudered mounting points had popped off of the socket assembly, so i grabbed my electrical tool set and began unscrewing the back of my 3ds. Sure enough when i got it all opened up...

I found the left 2 anchor points had popped off!

So, i grabbed my tiniest saudering iron (which was still way to big) and some very thin rosin, and holding the socket assembly in its proper position, tinned the tip and ever so carefully brought the 640 degree tip upon my 3ds, ever so gently dabbing the molten metal over the anchor points.

phew. The deed was done. I inspected the socket, and was satisfied with its firm hold, no longer wobbling at the merest touch. I closed the 3ds up, and tested to see if it came on, and then I plugged it in.

A solid orange glow from any way i held the 3ds showed me a job well done.

Ah, all is well. Sleep deep dear freind, for soon, when you are fully charged once more, the hunt shall begin again!!!

The same thing happened to my DSi. So I took it apart to try and fix it... It's now broken.

Lol you need more skills.

And yea I like using the dock. I gives less wear on the charger port. I seen them break so many times.

Awesome to know your 3DS came out of the surgery alive :) I remember about two years ago I was getting bored with my Black DSi, the warrenty had finished so I decided to spruce it up a bit, I took all the casing and bits apart on my own without instructions, and I ordered a Crystal Clear Blue DSi full housing and bottons set off Amazon UK for £20. I put it all back together and it was easy, except from one part: the ribbon cable that rolls up and slots through the hinge, that part alone took me over an hour it was just so fiddly, the rest took me about 20 mins, I mean I am tech savy but as long as you take your time and be careful anyone can do it :D my DSi looked awesome after that, Ironic thing was I only used it for about a month, then I sold it to get a 3DS!
