I don't think it's me not understanding you. It's you not understanding me, I said pre-planned. Not change the release date. Back in 2011 before announcing anything they should have looked at all their game schedules ect. and asked themselves if it would have been realistic to actually release this thing this year and they clearly over estimated themselves. The sales speak for themselves. Would have sold more if it launched with a better 1st party Nintendo title then NSMBU. That is a game that in my opinion, should have come out in 3-4 years time.

Before 2011 they could have. BEFORE. After 2011, delaying the launch would hurt third party developers.

Which is why I said pre-plan to release the Wii U to release in 2013.

The argument is that the launch of the 3DS taught Nintendo a lesson. That happened in 2011. They couldn't have learned a lesson pre 2011. And after 2011, it's too late to delay the launch.

3DS came out prior to Wii U even being announced though.. and the games like Darksiders weren't even probably even in development at that time for Wii U as they probably focused solely on XBOX 360 and PS3 versions first. It wouldn't have been to late to delay the launch even after E3.

It wasn't announced but developers were being told that Holiday 2012 was the target date. And I would be very surprised if by Feb 2011 developers and publishers weren't hard at work on Wii U games. Why do you think Nintendo couldn't get a 3D Mario game for launch, or a Zelda? Large scale games like that take at least one year to develop, and that's a rushed title. A good game, like Darksiders, would usually take over a year. And it takes planning even before starting that game, making sure you have the resources to finish. All of this started early 2011 with publishers figuring out what games they would bring to the Wii U.

And remember, it took Nintendo a little while to figure out there mistake (sadly). Developers probably started getting Dev kits by Feb, March and April 2011 at the latest.

Developers may have been told that, but it could have easily been changed and 3rd parties that games released first on 360 and PS3 would have had their Wii U versions made later. The fact is that, even if.. Nintendo could have done something between 2011-2012 to make the Wii U somewhat more worth purchasing.

I say he should step down. He is a nice guy with good intentions but doesn't know anything about capturing the core audience plus he handles PR horribly. And to make matters worse he is ditching an E3 presentation. I would be surprised if we even got 1 release date during E3 time. We need someone younger in charge.

Option 1: I have no personal problem with the dude, I'd hate for him to loose his job, I really like him, I just wish he'd get his sh!t in gear.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in not doing a regular E3 press conference and doing things different and in a fresh way. They have their reasons for that and I'm sure its not going to lose any impact from doing it different. Besides their E3 press conferences in recent years have been pretty poor and I think the change will do them good. I'm sure we will still get a lot of good announcements from them.
