rising.

"We originally planned to release a few first-party titles for Wii U during the first half of this year, but no big titles are scheduled for release before Pikmin 3 in July [in Japan] because we decided to take time to add the final touches to ensure that consumers fully feel that they are valuable titles. The brand of a franchise would be completely degraded without customer satisfaction.

"The reason for the delayed release of our first-party titles was the fact that completing the games released at the same time as the launch of Wii U required more development resources than expected, so some staff members from development teams working on other titles had to help complete them. In short, the development teams of Pikmin 3 and other future games were understaffed during that period."

Iwata also said that software development is becoming more challenging as consumers are being more selective about purchases.

"It is true that it is becoming increasingly challenging to meet the expectations of consumers who are willing to pay $50-$60 for a game, and it is difficult to break even unless a huge number of units is sold all over the world, so it cannot be denied that software development is becoming more challenging.

"Among such packaged software, however, the sales of popular games are much larger than in the past. Therefore, if we create more hit games, the software development business can still be very profitable. All games break even if they sell millions of copies worldwide, so we will continue to do our best to develop games which have high sales potential."

Well, apparently a lot of Nintendo projects were understaffed, which sucks,. Nintendo definition didn't transition as smoothly as we thought they would. The cost for HD gaming is pretty high, and you have to factor in all the other stuff  as well. This is why Pikmin 3 has been delayed for such a longer period of time.

A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.

While that quote isn't as true nowadays with patches, it still holds a lot of relevance and more companies need to follow in their footsteps. Even though you can patch a game, first impressions last forever. Dark Souls on PC is a perfect example: although now you can take advantage that PC brings to games, people will still say Dark Souls is awful on PC.

I think it's actually a bad distribution of the staff. As far as I know, Nintendo has been massively hiring staff approximately a year before the Wii U launched... lol that would be quite a shame if it's true.

Was waiting for someone to call this one :)

Shigeru Miyamoto for next Dalaï Lama, let's go.

Yup, that's why Indie gaming is rising all over the world.

At least we finally got a Pikmin 3 date. The delay doesn't bother me too much though, especially if it turns into a better game.

One day something will have to change. You can`t keep rising dev costs forever. The market isn`t growing in such proportion.

Not only that, but it seems that games worth paying for are the AAA ones. And that could seriously hurt smaller developers, either forcing them to close or pushing them to the iOS realm.

I think because of the slow start the Wii U is having, Nintendo felt the pressure to make sure they release the most visually appealing games that they can, and this takes time and man power.  I think Nintendo is looking to prove the Wii U is a capable system to not only consumers, but to developers as well.  Even with Pikmin 3, they may have been looking at the game thinking, this looks nice, but with a few extra months we could really add some extra polish and make it look incredible.  I would bet money on Retro's game being the one to showcase the Wii U, its gotta be Nintendo's answer to the PS4/720 in terms of showing that the Wii U can produce visuals in the same ballpark as the new consoles.

The PS4 and Xbox 720 are x86 based and will be much easier to develop software for. I think that was one of the main reasons away from the over-complicated ps3 design. The wii u benefits from being a similar setup to PS3 and 360 in some ways but really it is the ps4 and xbox 720 that will cut development costs for future games.

Hm well, i guess better things comes to the ones who wait, and the longer we wait for the games the better it will be when we play them.
