Day one purchase for me, they'll have to really screw something up to change that. And I'm not a major Sonic fan.

This looks cool and I like the approach of it.
First of all, I like the way it looks. Yes, there's evident graphical issues (for me, it's mostly how the main elements of the level contrast to the background) and that time and dedication will heal it for the most part. But on that note, it has the potential to create multiple avenues of exploration through the level.
I don't mind the whole Mario Galaxy vibe from it either. The Galaxy games where simply amazing, and to be honest if you wanted to realistically think about it (I guess), this is what floating land pieces would look like in 3D. Unlike the Mario games, Sonic games usually attempts to create a sense of speed, so in comparison, you'd probably spend a hell of a lot less time on a floating land mass in this game. I'm also interested to see if you can actually fall off the sides and land onto the planet, or if they'll occasionally allow such deviation.
One of the things I sort of didn't like was "All New Sonic Moves". They showcased wall running, but it's not super new, and I can only see it being used in you-have-to-do-it situations. I do hope they make creative use of it elsewhere. There was also a typical jumping on enemies sequence, but it was really rapid so I'm inclined to believe it was actually a single move. Basically a glorified homing attack but faster amd perhaps automatic so as to not create the typical interrupted feel chained homing attacks that you get in say everything after Sonic Adventure. I hope these are more like the skill sets in the Secret Rings because I actually liked that as a mechanic.
I will say the game is still a ways off and nowhere near it's final builds, but it's nice to have this trailer. It looks fairly random, but as we've seen before, not all games deserve that much plot, Sonic being one of those.

I can see why everyone's talking about the graphics, they were basically the only thing shown, along with the enemies.
But remember, this is BETA footage. Beta always looks blurry and imperfect.

I don't think Sonic being exclusive to Nintendo was ever a thing.
Nintendo has, however, secured the next 3 titles of the Sonic Franchise to their systems.

Those of you interested in 3ds version, can go here for more details!
I will be getting both!
http://3dsforums.com...ens-logo-48172/
Story Details
- Sonic is the only character players will directly control
- Tails, Knuckles and Amy will make appearances in the story
- Sonic is chasing after Eggman when he happens upon a mysterious planet called “Lost Hex”
- that's where the new enemies live
- these foes will bring a “sense of danger and humor” to the story
- Sonic will once again save animals throughout levels
- game will keep track of the animals you save on a level-basis as well as overall
- the more you save, the more bonus content you can unlock
- includes Red Star Rings (collected for unlockable content) and gold cannons (which access hidden paths)
- 3DS version will use full 3D levels
Gameplay and Level Details
(for Wii U version but will likely apply to the 3DS version as well)
- gameplay involves twisting, turning and jumping along floating constructs suspended in mid-air
- some stages focus on slower speeds with more platforming
- some stages focus more on speed
- grassy setting comes from Wind Hill
- Desert Ruins 1 features cakes, cookies, donuts and candy
- Desert Ruins 2 doesn't feature the food items mentioned above
- Desert Ruins 2 is a ‘tunnel racing’ concept
- wide range of branching paths and exploration options
- Sonic's controls have been adjusted to fit the new design
- the two key ideas are being able to control Sonic’s speed and a ‘Parkour system’
- this allows players to automatically accommodate basic obstacles when Sonic runs
- Sonic now walks until the GamePad’s triggers pop-up, which engage his running speed
- holding down the second trigger will pull Sonic into a ball
- Sonic is at full speed in ball form

I never played any of those. I'm just saying that from the pic expected something less cartoony.
No it doesnt, but it does leave impressions, and mine was that they had children in mind when making this. Just look at the "bad guys".
They had Sonic in mind when they developed the art style. Not sure if you were around, they tried uber realistic sonic before, it was terrible. This is how Sonic is supposed to look. It has nothing to do with age, it has to do with what works for the character and the backstory and what doesn't.

The graphics aren't anything to write home about. That's for sure.
But it looks like a blast (horribly generic and unimaginative enemies aside).
Reminds me of the n64 with its awesome graphics, especially seen ini turok, qb club, 007, Mario 64, banjo kazoo is, etc. -- but then f zero came out and it was the king of futuristic racing games. The speed was unreal. However, to get that speed, graphics had to be sacrificed by a large amount. Textures were made to look good in motion, but not when still. Polygon counts were low, etc.
I think that's what is happening here. And all the point of view, camera switching, etc is very taxing. I think they made the smart move in getting the system down. When lost world two comes out where you are fighting drop dead Fred, then you can look for graphics.
