The stuff there didn't work for me as I have a Windows XP Professional. It's a notebook, brand: Toshiba.I'm quite sure that this means your graphics card doesn't support the engine. Sensei-No would recommend of asking this on the support section in the minecraft forums. (I'm afraid you'll have to sign up for it though. Or look through and see if theres an answer).
(Yes, I stuffed the old format. It takes ages to type out. I'm also only going to use Lime green on this thread. If I ever type in lime here then it's
Sensei-No not HaHa-No.)
AHA! SENSEI-NO HAS NOT BEEN BEATEN! Check out this link V

I found a way to go around this problem (somewhat)...
Here it is for anyone who's interested:
Right click in your desktop, and choose properties.
Choose the configuration tab, and press the advanced properties option.
Choose the troubleshooter tab, and move the bar until it tells you that it has disabled direct3D.
Start Minecraft and Log-in.
See the Singleplayer, Multiplayer, options and whatever else screen.
Go back to the troubleshooter tab .
Move the bar in the troubleshooter tab all the to the right. (Or wherever it was)
???
Profit!!! (Unless a Creeper is outside your window right n-*Boom*)
