what i mean is, other than the big 3 console producers (i.e. Nintendo, $ony, and Micro$oft), perhaps there should be more consoles in the world released by newer companies in the later generations just to keep things more interesting for the rest of us (though the whole "console wars" might be even more messy online).

 

what do you guys think?

I doubt that would happen. And in the off topic... Why did you use $ in sony. Microsoft are the only money whores that i know of.

Atlus is a strong candidate to start the console business, their games always seem to succeed and they really love their fanbase, even though its small, they always deliver no matter how small of a budget they have or sales.

Most people have enough problems buying one or two systems for their exclusives/third party games. Do you really want to add another 3 or 4 systems at $200-600 each with other exclusive titles?

 

The market is barely big enough for Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo as it is. (And no, I'm not doing that "$ony" or "Micro$soft" crap. They're companies, of course they're trying to make a lot of money on their products. That's the name of the business game.) We don't need every John, Jill or Susanne gaming company throwing a brand new system out.

the reason i use the dollar sign as a substitute for the letter "S" for sony is just force of habit.  I guess I grew accustomed to using it on any brand name that has a letter "S" in it. I really have nothing against either of the two companies personally, just that I find it amusing to put a dollar sign on their name at any given time I start typing.

I would only want SEGA, Ubisoft to make a console but I could see EA trying to make one if they get pissed at the big 3.

I'd rather not. We already get a fair amount of fragmentation as it is. Not everyone want's to buy four or five consoles just to play games that are exclusive to one or the other.

 

Not that it matters to me. Aside from the Nintendo Classics and some Steam games I haven't really found any games that make me want an XBone or PS4

I think more consoles will complicate things and then the industry may take a hard hit from it. I don't want another crash. In my eyes I think things are pretty perfect right now. Three main companies with different aspects that people enjoy. All have their exclusives and different ways to play. Even if another company came out with a console to rival the other three it would be extremely hard for them to find good footing into it.
