My review of Etrian Odyssey IV 3DS

I started this game off and was introduced to boring representations of locations through menus, poor instructions, and a poor user interface. I later found a battle system in which the characters are not shown on the battlefield, and a 3D looking world with extremely limited, boxy controls. This game doesn't have much story and expects you to craft your own characters to a certain very small extent, which sounds like fun, but in this game, it's just not. Another thing which sounds like fun is that you get to draw your own map, but the game throws you in so quicky with no real motivation or instructioning, that you can't. I then spent my time dodging what looked to be a baboon with an afro which would kill your whole party if you touched it. This game may have forgiving factors, but I was ready to give it up after 10 minutes of playing it and play something good. I won't have a chance to revisit it because I already traded it.
My score of this game: 2/10

Never played it before, Never played any game in the series before.
For all I know it could be the best game in the world or the worst game in the world.... but after a mere 10 minutes of playing the game can you really say you have the right to review it
shoulda given it more of a chance before giving up

It's a dungeon crawler. And by the disliking the characters not being shown in battle, you wouldn't like Soul Hackers either.
Oh, and they're making one with an actual story soon, so you might like that one (if it comes to US).

Well I could tell it wasn't for me. I would rather play a more traditional game like Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Final Fantasy (the older ones), Disgaea, Pokemon. The game lacked on so many levels in the 10 minutes I played it, that I knew it probably wasn't the RPG for me. Truth be told, I didn't like the original Golden Sun at first, but ended up loving it, but even then, it never put me down like this game did. But I played this game for 10 minutes, and then traded it for a pretty significant money loss. Doesn't such an experience allow a review? It's something I would almost never do, trade it for a loss after barely playing it, that is.Never played it before, Never played any game in the series before.

It lets you play up to level 10, which is way farther than afro death baboon. And plenty of time to decide if you wantthe whole game, AND it lets you use where you left off in the demo (Though i didnt use that feature, as i was turned off by around level 6.)
You and i appear to look for a lot of te same things in jrpg's.... Which werent anywhere to be found here.
