It really just depends on what Nintendo can deliver on the 3ds a ton of the heavy hitters are already on or coming to the 3ds this and next year.
When do you think Nintendo will unveil the successor to the 3DS?

Exactly. We got our crop of Mario games, Pokemon games, etc. Even all the small time franchises got love (Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, etc) All we are missing is Zelda (which we're getting) and perhaps a Kirby game and we're good. We have tons of quality games on the e-shop and on the VC. Nintendo seems to of released all of their hardhitters. You gotta wonder how much longer they can drag it out.

That was a marginal improvement over its predessor, IMO. Gameboy Advance was pretty cool for its time tho.
I don't Nintendo will wait another 5 years to release their next handheld.
The GBA lasted three years, the Gameboy Color lasted three years, etc. The majority of Nintendo franchises are already on the 3DS and its been out for roughly 2.5 years. Next year will probably be the 3DS's peak and Nintendo will probably announce it at E3 and unveil it in 2015.
