I bought a pre-owned 3ds original from Game online a few weeks ago and this was because I missed how the original looked and played even though I have an XL.

 

So anyway, it came in good condition like new and everything was wiped clean for a new user or so I thought. I was looking at some Virtual Console games and went to buy Fire Emblem for the GBA and then popped up the "Re-download" button!

 

I then went to look at download history and obviously these were games bought by the previous owner. There are over 30 Virtual Console games that I can re-download for free! I'm not talking crappy games, they are all top Nintendo classics.

 

Fire Emblem GBA, Zelda GBA, Mario Kart Advance, Metroid Fusion, Mario Advance 3 and many more even the 3ds game Dillon's Rolling Western. Previous owner got good taste.

 

I do feel like I'm stealing in a way if I do download them all. What would you guy's do?

 

Also if I wanted a couple VC games transferred from my 3ds to XL is that possible or does everything get transferred?

Ha, yeah I better free up some space for them all first lol.

 

Actually I remember the Wii U had a similar thing where the new owner can download free games too, didn't know 3ds had this same issue until now.

You are a lucky person. I wish I still had the Ambassador games on my 3DS, but when I traded my 3DS for my XL GS wouldn't let me do it. And I was too hype for the XL so I did it anyway. I have most of those games on GBA carts anyway, but it's nice to have them on the 3DS.

It's not stealing, you bought the 3DS and all the content inside it, you own the entire 3DS. 

Like a house, if you buy a house for cheap and find millions of $ inside, those $ are yours, you bought the entire thing, so everything in it belongs to you now.

Iirc the cicenses are bound to the 3DS. You can't sell the 3DS without the games purchased for it.

When he sold it he pretty much knew that he was giving them away aswell.

If you had a chance to know who he/she was i would say talk to him/her to see if he/she was really aware of what sold.

 

I too would feel strange about getting stuff that wasn`t mine. Still, since it is available to redownload, even if you download them, they won´t go away anyway.

Don`t think there is any harm done there.

Hah! I never heard of that. That's pretty sick, but funny. That's what happens when stores don't format the system. Gamestop always formats the portable systems in front of you at the register. Well the one I used to go to did that.

Here in the UK we have a paper called The Sun I was reading it one day and there was an article about a 13 or 14 year old boy who got his Mother to buy him GTA IV second hand on PS3 from a store called GAME (UK's equivilant of GameStop) when he got home he found 2 bags of Crack Cocain tucked inside the instruction book. Quite shocking I must say.

It's called an ambassador 3DS. People who bought it before the price drop got 20 free virtual console games(10 NES and 10 GBA). Lucky you too because the gameboy advance games are exclusive to ambassadors. The owner actually did buy the Dillon's Rolling Western/whatever else though..
