can't wait
I don't think this is something that will be finished anytime soon.
Ever considered having a little 3D for the special moves? ... Just a little?

We'll consider it, though I have no idea how easy it would be to program XD

Perhaps you could make a 3D pre-rendered opening? Just an idea, because I have no idea how hard that would be XD
Anyway, OP updating time...

I could try to do that.
Just a few questions.
What is going to be the art style? It would be weird if the game was in anime style and I did realistic. (I have no idea of how to do a good cell-shading, but I can investigate)
What kind of cutscene do you want?
How long do you want it to be?
What will be the scenario?
I guess these questions will suffice for now. I want to get working on it right away, because I have a lack of experience and I don't want to slow you guys down.

Games that refuse to use Gameplay effectively to do anything are like films that refuse to use cinematography in film to do anything.

Expanding on to what Lord N said, an opening is one of the last things that we would do. First we would have to get Theme, Story and Art Style all nailed down, which we should have within 6 months of now.
I could try to do that.
Just a few questions.

However, this gives you a lot of time to test out new methods. Chances are we'll be going with, if not completely Anime, a cartoony style, so learning cel-shading would be great! And don't worry about slowing anything down, you probably have more experience with Modeling than I have with managing
