Should SSB abandon casual players?

I know Sakurai is trying to make Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS cater to both casual and competitive players but it would be a good idea for the Smash Bros. games to abandon the casuals completely and cater only to the competitive audience?

I shouldn't think that they should completely abandon casuals, but should stick to the more technical side. I haven't heard a casual say that melee is bad because of the advance techniques and such.

No because some people think playing as casual players in smash bros fun.

Why would they abandon the potentially biggest market Smash Bros has?

 

I'd imagine most of the reason that Smash Bros is so popular is that it is easily accessible for Tournament players and newbies alike.

I don't see how you could abandon the casual players...  I mean, unless you get rid of items, stages, and so on, which is completely against the concept of Smash Bros, a fun fighting game.

no, I think that's what makes the game so special. I look at all the fighting games on the market and I feel SB is easily the most balance fighting game for casuals and experience players. I think only MK and DOA can compete with SB but it's their title to lose.

I just want this game to kick major ass. They've removed tripping so I guess you can say they've "removed casual players". But they really haven't and will not get rid of the casual players.

More like abandon competitive players, they can be annoying.

Getting rid of the casual fanbase wouldn't be very wise. I don't know about you, but I like having new Smash Bros. games, and we won't get any if sales take a significant dip because the majority of the consumers were driven away. Might be overexaggerating a bit, but you get the point. Sure it will still get some sales on name brand alone, but why would you risk driving away your main consumers when you can keep them and draw in more people with accessible gameplay? Smash at its core is supposed to be a fun, casual game which is what Sakurai tried to convey with Brawl, and making it overly technical to appease a small portion of fans just wouldn't make sense.

 

With that said, I think that Melee struck a perfect balance with casual fun and technical gameplay for those that wanted to play competitive.

All I know is the old one was great and love the story mode. So he they don't change all that.

The main thing I like about ssb is that it wasn't your normal run of a mill fighting game.
It has the story mode and good battle matches.

I wouldn't buy it. I like that it's a fun party brawler. :/ I don't see how casuals ruin the game for competitive players. Tripping is out so now you'll all able to play on Final Destination with Fox and no items no problem. :P

SSB has the potential to be the most competitive fighting game in the world without the casuals even noticing. Sakurai shouldn't really be limiting how competitive the game is (assuming that's what he means by that quote). SSB is different than other fighting games because 1) they have casual options that you can turn on and off 2) They don't shove competitive play in your face. It's not do this to perform combos, etc. That's the reason so many other fighting game players, and casual SSB players don't even know such a thing as competitive brawl exists.

Essentially I'm saying, no, there's no reason for Sakurai to abandon casuals. He can make this game as competitive as he likes, and the casuals won't notice, or care one bit.

Its alot faster than Brawl though.

If they did this, then who would buy the game? The name Nintendo doesn't exactly bring up visions of hardcore gamers.

Die-hard fans yes. But not what I consider hardcore.

The system is being shunned by most segments except the initial burst of the die-hards.

The real hardcore gamers are waiting for the Xbone and PS 4.

The wii u is there for the second system crowd.

considering the fact that I despise when people play SSB competitively, I'd rather they NOT abandon the casual angle. It's Smash Bros., not Guilty Gear. It's high time people stop trying to turn it into that.
