There has been a rumor lately, apparently EA have receiveed the new dev kits of the Wii U and had this to say

Developers: "Looking at these new dev kits we estimate the Wii U to be 3 - 5 times more powerful then a Ps3 or 360 (300 - 500%)"

EA: "The Wii U can do anything the Ps3 or 360 can do and more, we are very excited with it"

This is on many sites like Kotaku, IGN, Etc. couldnt put a link for some reason though.

I would like to see the link, but this can still be considered false.

As cool as all of this is, seeing as how Nintendo is first in line and the developers are reveling in the idea of "Wow, it can do what the PS3 can do" and not "Wow, this is true next generation technology for video games!" I'm afraid we may turn up in another Wii situation.
Then again, I don't know much more they can do with home consoles. Either way, the fact that they're amazed with how it matches up with the PS3 is a bit underwhelming to me. I don't want this turning into the Wii where a lot of games don't come to it because it's so far behind. The Wii was more powerful than the Xbox and the PS2, but look where it went. This isn't enough to get excited about.

I really hope this is true, but I doubt it. Imagine what Nintendo could do using Zelda with a system that powerful.

Moore's law: Computational strength doubles every 2 years. PS360 was 6 years ago; 2->4->8
The affordable point fits right in with this rumor. I think it's legit.

Well, now developers has no reason to NOT put their games on it, except that nintendo has gotten a bad name. But it is the developers that has to fix that, ninty cant do it.

I have it on good word that the wiiu is between 4-5 times the graphics processing power of the PS3 and the wiiU can happily run visually intense games at 1080p at 60fps.
pc's with the same graphics card look not as good. the wiiU has two of them.

the bird demo at E3 was impressive. that is a quick DEMO. That is what the first gen of launch games will look like.

better than PS3 straight out of the box... a year down the line expect current pc graphics quality... and better.

It says Nintendo Wii vs PS360, but he just made a typo.

Waller, nice find. I hope the rumored specs are true. I even liked how the guy ended it, by not being a bias fanboy.

That was beautiful. Now, if only IGN/GameRant took the exact same route of 'non-bias'.

This merely goes along with the rumor that the Wii U uses a GPU based on the RV770 series of ATI Radeon GPU. This narrows the expectations down to a specific range, but still were talking about a GPU from about 3 to 5 times as powerful as current HD consoles, but with developers earlier pointing toward the Wii U's GPU being around a Radeon HD 4850 and more recent rumors of it being around a Radeon HD 4870 in power we can at least hope that the Wii U is around 4 to 5 times as powerful as Xbox 360.

Many people beleived that it was only 50% more powerful then a Ps3 just by using the devs as evidence even though they only said it had 50% faster clocking speeds. Now the devs really are saying thats it's more powerful so what makes this rumor any less beleivable then the 50% thing which was kinda ridicouless.

Well, no doubt Nintendo are trying to hit a sweet spot, between making the current gen consoles obsolete, thus forcing Sony and MS to bring out new machines, and having a console with enough power so that if the competition does bring out those machines anyway, the Wii U itself does not become obsolete.

With all the hysteria about console wars online right now, it is difficult to predict who will do what, but it is hard to see why Sony and MS would launch their next gen machines now. They can more easily keep in touch with the Wii U by adding more ram and, in the case of the Xbox, a higher capacity disc drive, to their current consoles.

Only time will tell, but we can be sure, whatever the competition do, the Wii U will be relevant for some time to come.

Outside trying to keep the Wii U relatively affordable while remaining within a level of improvement over the current HD consoles that would stop PS4 and Xbox Next from completely overshadowing them I don't think Nintendo cares much what Sony and Microsoft do. Nintendo's strategy going forward still has itself firmly rooted in their blue ocean strategy with the Wii. They'll be competing far more directly with their rivals' systems true, but the focus in on differentiating themselves from Sony and Microsoft and giving unique experiences that don't exist outside their own hardware. This is why 3D was added to the 3DS and why Nintendo is going forward with the tablet controller. The rumored power of the system already makes the PS3 and Xbox 360 obsolete anyway.

"The specs are very good. It's a challenge for designers, but once thought through it can add value, and that's what ultimately important. Our guys in Nottingham, they are very happy with their tests on the dev kits and they're excited about it." - Avni Yerli (CryTek Founder)

The main man of CryTek says the specs are VERY GOOD. That is a very positive idea on how powerful this thing really is.

Crytek were one of the first developers to get a WiiU (cafe at the time) dev kit.
My friend has seen a tech demo of crysis3 running on WiiU using two controllers and one hdtv and said it looked incredible.
This was also before nintendo announced it would only use one controller.
Also I can confirm the graphics are 4-5 times the power, and ability of the xbox360. The comparison he uses did not mention the PS3.
