X mainly because of Mega-Charizard X and Mega-Mewtwo X. I don't really care that much about the Legendaries.

Pokemon X. Why? because I thought that the legendary on top looked cooler than Y's. No joke.

Just as with my first 'Imported-Pokemon-Red' I didn't really care which version to get. To be honest, I bought Y for the 5th birthday of my son because the cover of that onw look more fiersome. But when picking it up (pre-ordered) I just couldn't resist...and bought X for myself too. So yesterday I witnessed my first pokemon batlle with my son....couldn't have guessed that one some 16/17 years ago.
What the world needs is more geniuses with humility, there are so few of us left

You can just trade for whichever one doesn't come with your game, I think

You can just trade for whichever one doesn't come with your game, I think
But how likely is it to trade something for a Mega Charizard X or even an Yveltal for example?

Pokemon X because of 3 reasons:
1. X is one of my favorite letters of the alphabet.
2. I like Xerneas more than Yveltal.
3. Carizard and Mewtwo have much more awesome looking designs in X compared to Y.

I always choose the "first" version (as in Red, Gold, Ruby, etc.), so it was obviously going to be X. However, I had more reason to get X because I much prefer Xerneas over the Y legendary. In fact Xerneas might be my favorite legendary. It's very beautiful.

Sorry, I am admittedly a Pokemon newb. How exactly does it work? Is it not possible to get more than one Xerneas in X (and thus be able to trade one for an Yveltal but keep the other Xerneas)?

Legendaries are only one per game, although if you use the Pokemon Bank you could store one in there and start a new game to get another.Sorry, I am admittedly a Pokemon newb. How exactly does it work? Is it not possible to get more than one Xerneas in X (and thus be able to trade one for an Yveltal but keep the other Xerneas)?

Yep. I won't even have to look. Most of my friends grabbed X so they'll be wanting my Y pokemon before long.
