Even Valve/Steam.

We’re launching Pure Chess and Knytt Underground later this year, and on Pure Chess we asked whether we could do cross-platform multiplayer, expecting it to be the typical closed console platform I’ve been used to working with for 20 years. Within a couple of days they said, ‘yep, no problem. You can have other console players playing against Wii U players. You can have smartphone players play against them. No problem

Cross-Play with any console.

its an indie game that hopefully will sell enough to make a small profit. lets not make it seem like nintendo is so ahead of the curve with their online options.

I think this should be applied to Call of Duty. My brother wants to buy that game for Xbox 360/One just so that he can play with his friends who also own/will own a 360/X1.

YAY, now who said Nintendo was slow at doing stuff...?

Hopefully they keep up this policy in the future with other multi platform games.

It just amazes me that this was never the case.

Doing badly brings out the best in everything. When Nintendo did badly with the Gamecube, they destroyed with the Wii. When Playstation did badly with the PS3 (at the start of it's lifetime), they destroyed with the rest of it's lifetime, and it seems as though they will with the PS4 too. When Nintendo  did badly with the Wii U at launch, they went to E3 with tons of first party software and soon developed new policies with online (they've been there for a while now, but they're only now becoming apparent).

The point is Nintendo are allowing the developers of this game to use cross-platform online (which no other competitor is currently allowing). So we can assume they would let other developers do the same which means we may see some bigger games have cross-platform multiplayer in the future.

i know i sounded mean but with all the lack of online multiplayer games from nintendo and 3rd parties dropping online its just hard for me to jump over the moon from this.

I am loving the Cross Platform Play with PS3 on Portal 2 (I'm TheUltimateWaddleDee on Steam add me pls), so I was disappointed when nothing else like it happened. If Destiny, The Crew, and The Division somehow come to Wii U, this is a must for ALL platforms! Hopefully Sony and Microsoft also both allow this. I'm a little worried about that because Microsoft didn't allow Cross-Platform Play with Portal 2 because it wouldn't use Live servers. There is cross platform play for CoD Ghosts on Microsoft and Sony systems, but only between their current and next gen machines (X1 with 360, and PS4 with PS3). Hopefully they allow this.

If this were to happen with games like CoD: Ghosts, I'd be much more likely to purchase them.  Black Ops 2 online was a deserted wasteland.

Two Tribes tried to get Valve and Nintendo to work together for Toki Tori 2's level editor...and it almost happened

Coming from a Kotaku interview with Two Tribes' Martijn Reuvers...

"Our dream was basically to let users create levels on whatever platform they'd prefer and that they would be able to share it through Steam Workshop. So we came up with a proposal that would allow Wii U owners of Toki Tori 2+ to login to Steam, so that they could make use of that functionality. Kinda what Valve did with Portal on the PS3.

Nintendo and Valve reacted very positively and we had some calls and e-mails with both parties about this proposal. After doing a thorough technical check, we decided that in order to create a near seamless integration, we needed more functionality that was out of our control. Unfortunately things like this take time and cannot be implemented overnight. So for Toki Tori 2+, it was too late at that point. However we still are in contact with them, so should things change, we'll definitely revisit it again."

Looks like the two companies are indeed open to working with one another, but this implementation would have been too far above and beyond the original plan. At least now the door is open!

Would have been cool.

Also, Cross-play would also solve the "Wii U online community is so low". COD: Ghosts Cross-Play please!
