Only frame drops I saw was when lots of stuff was going on screen. There was the occasional drop at sea and on land but nothing major, and certainly nothing like what digital foundry as saying.

Perhaps Digital Foundry was using the digital download? That’s what I have and it’s pretty choppy even after the update. It’s noticeable anytime you run through Havana and the camera pans, you'll see it consistently drop down to 15-20 frames. My roommate has it running on his PS4 and if that version is 30fps, then the Wii U version probably averages a good 5-10 frames lower.

Huh, never had that in havannah on my disc. Just running around? Most common slowdown for me is on the sea, typically when I start large scale shiznet by large islands.

Thats wierd, did ubisoft somehow bottle neck reading from the hard drive so its slower than disc?

Got to be honest the frame rate is pretty slow on this. I just got the Wii U version in a sale, and it's a bit rough. It's probably ok if you are not used to the higher level graphics but it just looks slow. It's not so much slow down as I don't see it ever running smoothly, it just looks consistently slow. Not unplayable though.

Also the shadows are shockingly bad, and make it look worse than it would otherwise I think. When it's still it looks fantastic, but throw in awful shadows and slow frame rate and it doesn't look that good.

It certainly doesn't look like they prioritised performance at all after what they said about it.

It is slow. It runs at about half the frame rate of most other wii u games (or wii games... or nintendo games in general...) like pretty much every multiplat ps360 game I have. But we are specifically talking about dramatic performance slowdowns, like shown in the video... The likes of which ive never encountered so bad.

All ubisoft wii u games except zombi u have horribad shadows, as the wii u is basically emulating a 360 in their ports, whose code was designed to use only a meager 10Mb of edram, and use main mem for everything else, and thus take horrible samples whilst wii u has over 3x that on die... Anyways, we all know ubisoft didnt waste time or manpower on wii u ports, they simply give the system 360 code and let it trudge through unoptimized code.

What they did do, was add things like vsync, slightly higher res textures, and slightly better effects over ps360 versions. They didnt attempt to opimize performance in the slightest upon release, although they did patch it after release, which helped a little bit. Did your version get the patch yet?

Yes I got the patch, so not sure if it's worse before. As I said I'm not seeing slow down as in its running fine and then dropping, it's just consistently low. And not unplayably bad, just a little annoying, kind of like Lego Marvel in co-op...

Also some have said it's just Havanna so it could be better once I'm out of that area.

It's at least more consistent than AC3 was.

Wonder how many cores the game is running on now since AC3 was one core, hehehe.

Interestingly I got to the sailing section with all the weather effects and it looked really impressive. There was no slow down but the water and rain looked great.

It also looks a much better game in darker settings where the terrible shadows don't ruin everything quite as much.

When I was running through Havana it seemed to be at just under 30 FPS. Not enough to be game breaking yet enough to annoy me. I haven't gotten to use the boat much (only the intro), so I can't really tell you how it ran then.

The game also locked up on me a few times. I wasn't connected to the internet for a while when playing, so when I returned from the home menu, it froze for 30 twice.

Still don't get the grumbles about this game it plays great.

last night my brother in law commented on it looking nicer than his 360 copy and loved the map being on the game pad.He also had high praise about the Pro controller which is nice seeing as everyone thought the 360 control pad was the best of that gen.
