The latest Super Mario Bros. games added DLC to the picture, but that doesn’t mean Nintendo is going to stick to that trend with every upcoming game of the series. As part of an interview with the French site Gamekult, Producer Yoshiaki Koizumi was very clear in stating that “there’s no plan” to create additional downloadable content for the upcoming Super Mario 3D World.

I don’t know if we can consider Super Mario 64 as an open world game, but I think Super Mario Sunshine is more consistent with that definition because of the city and entire worlds to explore. Our main standpoint with Super Mario is to ensure that players always know where to go.

It’s for this reason that we have given great importance on the placement and visibility of the flags, particularly in Super Mario 3D World . Again, as creators, we want a large number of people to be able to play and enjoy the game, so it’s sort of our duty to ensure that the objectives are clear to everyone. However, if a very large number of players expressed the desire for a more open Mario, we would take that request very seriously.

Ok I'll start a plan now!

How much money we talking? You give me numbers and I can get this started by next week!

In all seriousness I'd love a sunshine 2. So hopefully something along those lines can happen. Nice to know they're thinking about it

I would pre-order it the day they announce it, even if eb games had no idea what I was talking about.

There has never been a truly open world Mario game. The hub was pretty open..but the rest of the game is usually divided in areas (like Galaxies). A truly open world Mario could be interesting, but maybe a bit too confusing and tiresome. I would like to see a HUGE hub however. Like, a huge version of Delfino Plaza.

"if fans ask for it"?? Is this a joke?  What ELSE have fans been asking for besides a spiritual successor to Mario 64 or Sunshine?

Never got the Sunshine craze, that was my least favorite 3D Mario, way too many tasks.

He probably gets a pension from Nintendo.
but he's pretty young, I doubt he has to worry about that yet.
Weird that you are.

They claim Sunshine was the only open world Mario game they ever made.
They discounted 64 in the article specifically, and the author finished by putting open world in the same bag as galaxy, which made me giggle a bit as galaxy was the furthest from open world mario has ever been.

I read this one btw, a rainbowty blog site being a silly pony, no real surprise but still.
