I can't watch the video but I see a apicrot Miss Packmon. What's the cliff notes?
Thats actually the cabinet art of ms pacman.
Well... the actual subject matter is actually really, really good topic, I highly suggest people inform themselves on this stuff, as its pretty eye opening.... just... from someone else who doesnt completely blow it.
More third wave feminism er pretend third wave feminism with second wave values, most notably tangerine shaming, and other attempts at telling females what they should and shouldnt be. Other methods heavily over used is the logical fallacy argument via ridicule, and in general breeds division, intolerence, and demonization, a perfect recipe to create and mantain 'sides' where there should be none, and encourage fighting between them.
She covers female/male swaps, where a female character is just a visual swap for a male one, and characters where being female is the ONLY character trait the character has... And then proceeds to blow near every single example by her complete lack of understanding of the subject matter.
Starts with the subject of gender stereotypes and gender identity, where gender identity is a fake social construct (it is) created by a social class in power to opress another social class (it isnt. It was created by people who identified with one another, and then abused by aholes, to take advantadge of the weak willed). In this case, things like lipstick, and bows to show that a character is female.... And that being their only defining trait. Being the girl, thats it. Whereas the males are defined by who they are, or what they are like. The fun one, the smart one etc.
This is important on many levels, videogame storytelling sucks balls, and, since because most games now are story based experience games, having vapid one dimensional characters whos only attribute is 'the girl' arent helping move the experience forward. Same applies to male characters, they are horribly written, but at least they have more than one dimension.
And then she screws it all up with examples she clearly only glanced at and took at immediate biased face value, and dont apply at all to the situation. Im not going to cover everything because it would be beating a dead horse after a couple.
Ms pacman is a terrible choice, because pacman had no personality. He wasnt even a character he was a visual representation of a game mechanic, and nothing more. He wasnt portrayed as smart, fun, funny, mishevious, its not that kind of game. In fact, most of her qualms for all of these can be leveled at the MARKETERS and advertising, which game devs have no part in... Which makes sense as pretty much the extent of her gaming knowledge appears to be glancing at promotional material, as she appears to demonstrate little knowledge of the games or characters beyond that.
The koopakids is another terrible choice. Her complaint is that they just used a bow and lipstick for wendy o'koopa and that was it. Wendy's sole identity is the 'girl'. Well, actually, so far thats actually a decent argument. Unfortunately she just doesnt leave well enough alone. She then says the MALE koopas are defined by their personalities, the fun one, the smart one, the one that had to make a heart rending decision about which of their pets, the goomba or the troopa would live or die because he couldnt save them both and swore revenge on the fat serial killer who stomped them. And thats bull. Which one is the smart one Anita? Which one is the fun one? Which ones the stock market player? Its all bs. The koopa kids had no such defining qualities in their 8 bit pixel representations. You had the derpy looking one, the one with hair and a tooth, the one on a ball. Nothing male defining, flattering, or any more substantial than the one with a bow.
And then there is wonder pink, which of course, she knows nothing about, nor does she know anything about tw101. She starts off with a healthy dose of tangerineshaming, shaming pink for being an attractive female who enjoys being er... dressing, as an attractive feminine female. Her 'sexy pose' Anita complains about is a parody of Bayonetta's box art. MANY of the characters in this game parody other platinum game, and clover games characters, scenes, events, and catch phrases.
She erroneously states that pink is the only female plare character, when actually, there are about 50 other playable female characters with a wealth of creative, often hilarious background information defining them and their powers,ad their wacky/cool/bizarre choice in outfits in their files.
She then judges pink soley on her appereance, and ignores everything pink does that doesnt fit her scenario, (again not only because Anita is purposefully cherry picking, but because she also knows nothing about the game.)
She misses That Pink is actually defined beyond being the girl. Wonder Pink is an Olympiad, is 'by far' the most agile and nimble member of the team (Anita's oh so desired label, pink is the 'agile' one), prescribed as being known for having a “laissez-faire” attitude, with both negative and positive impacts to the team and missions both in game and missions past in her background file. Pink also has a tragic background story involving... NO not a love interest, the tragic death of her siblings.
She claims pink uses a whip to be gender stereotyped as a sex object dominatrix, pleasure fodder for men, and nothing more.
Pink is transelvanian, has 'fangs', has a special killer whip made by the 'belmont process', and shares her comedic worst character traits with this notorious gaming pop culture foopah:

Pink is a castlevania homage. She also pays homage to thier games, including bayonetta and viewtiful joe Of course, youd actually have to know about videogames a little, or at least play them to know that. Pink is very, very far from being 'the girl' and not having any other attributes.
Yeah... Anita is basically the worst possible thing for actual activism of this situation. She hasnt actually studied any feminist theory, so her face value obviously media gathered knowledge/interpretation of feminism is stuck in the second wave. She has absolutely no actual knowledge of the games she talks about, which immediately turns off people interested in actual pure gaming from empathizing with, or acknowledging the problem with female depictions in consumable media, and in fact are purposefully put on the defensive by anita's purposeful use of argument via ridicule, and she purposefully divides and baits for fighting.
Which... Makes for BRILLIANT self sustaining arguing, and making money via explotation (both sides too, well played Anita), which she is exceptional at.
