For weeks I've been struggling to think what my mum would want for Christmas and then I thought about a tablet, bingo! She might not use as much as I hope but I think she will still be surprised and thought it will come in useful for her work and things.

I didn't want to get something too expensive but it was either the Nook HD or this Nvidia Tegra Note 7 which comes with a 1.5ghz quad core processor, 72 core GPU and a good camera with stylus (most tablets around £150 - £200 don't come with a stylus).

It seems to do everything I know she will like apart from gaming lol but wonder if gaming on tablets like this are any good?

It can run a playstation emulator with ease, and sync it up with a wii classic controller...

Though most rpg's work just fine with simple touch controls.

Cool, don't really know much about tablets as I'm more a laptop guy. Didn't know it could run emulators or sync with controllers.

Might get one myself now lol.

Wait, you're getting it for your mom, but you're asking about gaming? You're Mom is into gaming? That's pretty sweet actually! Nicely done!

Myself, I'm looking into getting a google nexus 7. I already have a gaming pc and a laptop, so a mini tablet is what would work for me.

Get her a Google Nexus 7. If you don't want that try Apple or Samsung.

Androids can do pretty much anything, as they are more or less completely open and unrestricted... Of course, that also comes with its own... Cons.

Not that my mum will care much for gaming but is there any tablets more powerful than say a Vita?

There is no straight forward answer to that question in my opinion. Not only is it difficult to compare in terms of quantifying the technology in tablets to that in the Vita but unlike the Vita the main use and focus of tablets is not gaming. Not to mention they tablets do not have physical controls on them making gaming more of a challenge. I have an iPad Air and hardly ever play games on it even though I do have quite a few games on it. I much prefer using my Vita or 3DS XL for portable gaming. I don't think one should look at gaming as an important use when looking at tablets. This is just my opinion of course.
