One thing I would love Nintendo to add in an update would be some form of achievements, the console is only one year old so it might be on the cards.

Since it doesn't that leaves Sony and Microsoft with their consoles.

I feel Gamerscore's are not an indication of a players skill unless you search their individual games and look for earned achievements that are higher scored. Trophies meanwhile have more of an appeal to me as you can see how many Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum's etc that person has without digging through their games. I believe PS4 now has trophies based on rarity or something too.

So that's my preference. What do you think is best and prefer collecting? Or maybe you think it's a pointless inclusion.

Well, I know next to nothing about GamerScore as I don't have an Xbox 360, so I'll compare Steam Achievements/PSN Trophies instead.

Personally, I do like Trophies over Steam Achievements as Trophies add to a running total (PSN Level) as well as have a rarity percentage added to them, while Steam Achievements just have rarity-per-game and don't add to any total (I think, could be wrong.)

Of course, I would like the trophy score/steam achievements earn something more substantial...like reach "X" GamerScore/Trophy Level, get a free Xbox/PS1 or PS2 Classic or something.

I loved gamerscore because I got a point value for each achievement I got, but I don't mind the PS4 way of doing it with just trophy color and rarity.

I think additional rewards for gaming, whether it's a means to something or just to inflate your ego, is great. You take those massive open world games, places that developers have millions of things littered. If you just play the game from start to finish, you touch a very light amount of what the game offers, and in a way, developers have just wasted time bothering to add that stuff to the game in the first place.

Additional rewards can help drive the consumer to actually go to places like that, out of the way joints that you never really gave to poops about. Of course, you'd have to be one of those types of gamers that do like to add to their notoriety in some way or another among others. You extend game time, you get more fill for your buck, you might accidentally walk into something that really makes the game worth it in those last, rushed moments before the end game.

It amazes me that some gamers think of it as a bad thing. When was a free reasonable extra ever a bad thing? And why on earth did Nintendo NOT include it on the Wii U?

I don't need stickers to enjoy games. I don't need to be treated like I'm 5. XBOX One has made even more worthless like watching 3 shows on netflix  in a row you get one. They treat you like a not good child who is insecure and needs reassurance. I didn't need them in the 80's as a child and certainly don't need nor care about them now.

I did not mind them in Metroid Prime 3 because they actually let you use them like currency and get bonus items. Only time I ever liked them.

Personally I enjoy achievements and the like, but I'd like an option to keep them private. Some achievements are interesting, like finding all the recordings in a Bioshock game, as I wouldn't have done that without the achievements and those recordings really tell the story. However, then you have stupid and pointless achievements like collecting a bunch of feathers in Assassin's Creed 2.

I just want to have the trophies private because while they do add to the longevity of a game, some people feel the need to judge you based on the achievements.

They've added achievment tags to miiverse, miiverse as a whole, and now stamps.

Nintendo didnt think of it first and being called a copycat would bring great dishonor on to the Iwata dojo

Whilst I don't make a point in trying to go out of my way to get achievements or trophies and I don't try to play really easy games to increase them, I do like it when a message pops up on the screen that says I have earned and achievement or trophy because it give me a sense of achievement ( no pun intended ). It gives one more of an incentive to finish the game. I don't think there is anything wrong in that at all. I do think its really annoying that there are so called trophy or achievement "whores" who are so competitive and want to get as many as possible and will even play easy games even if they are of poor quality, not to mention resort to cheating in some cases. There is both a negative and positive side to trophies and achievements.

There are some trophies you can't help but cheat for, like online ones for a game or mode where no one plays anymore/never did. Or that parrot one in Golden Abyss where you tap it 8 times. Like seriously, that's not an achievement, that's an accident. Who the hell wants to tap something in a cutscene 8 times?

Gamerscore/trophies are mandatory and implemented in every game via the api, automatic, stored within your online profile, and accessible through multiple interfaces.

Miiverse achievements work with just a couple of games, and is really just a templated Miiverse post. Good luck finding any way to easily search through your past achievements

I usually don't care about Achievements anymore. They usually show up at expected parts of the game (story bits, after a boss fight, after collecting stuff, etc. ), so I lnow they're coming. The Achievements I like are the unexpected/funny ones. Eating a snake in MGS3 or getting a secret codec call from Otacon in the MGS2 Tanker Mission get you achievements that are funny because their not important and you might miss them.

Have you tried doing that? I’m not sure that does what you think it does.

i just used it as a ruff indicator to how much the player plays games. i dont care enough to attempt most of the challanges to get any gamerscore, or trophies. espicialy since most of it commes simply from playing the game. it can still tell you very inaccreatly how much they game. if they game alot. that is it.
