Bravely Default Censored For Western Release
Costumes and ages both altered.

Square Enix has censored parts of the Western release of Bravely Default.

IGN user BangSilverGang posted the below comparison shot on the boards, showing how the developer modified the costumes for the Western version of the game to be less revealing. The shots on the right are from the Japanese version of the game, while the ones on the left are from the Western localisation.

I prefer the censorship. Looks better. Original looks not good.

I agree with the above, I prefer the western version. Although it really won't make much of a difference.

I prefer the original. Besides on principle I disagree with such censorship and its a real disappointment they had to go and do that. Its just silly.

No one should get that angry about this, it's not really much censorship.  The redesign looks just fine.

It probably also has more to do with the cultural disconnect the US has with so many countries.  Often in the US anything with any slight sexual nature is pointed out and quickly shamed or censored.

Then there's the issue of female characters being sexualized...  I really hope this doesn't bring up the entire arguments that occurred with Dragon's Crown again, though.

I call it more "western audiences are creeped out by little girls in micro bikinis, so let's change it" rather than censorship.

So many people are mad that now they're looking at 18 year olds instead barely dressed 13 year olds.

Says a lot really.

I'm actually curious about how this whole process happened for some reason. Why didn't they just do the Western designs first? What made them decide to change it? I hope we get some more information to see the complete story.

And this is why the over seas version will sell more lol.

It's funny tho because in the US the movies are crazy full of nudity but the Japanese movies censore all that.

Fairies in bikinis = bad.  Hannah Montana rubbing her butt against a grown man's genitalia in front of a 10-million underage audience = good.

Yes... Good, thats what it was unanimously considered.

Oh, wait, No it wasnt. Looked like an albino slim jim having a seizure. Thought Achy breaky heart guy had already done his worst to plauge humanity, with annoyingly crappy kiche country songs. I was wrong. SO very very wrong, the assault continues.

The kid needs to face the facts and give it up. Shes not a real musician, shes not an artist, she never was, shes a packaged corporate creation of Walt disney marketeers, and nothing more, just like Brittney and all the rest of the terds. Once these kids grow up and realize their is a real world out there, they will forget about her and her vapid substanceless crap just as fast as any imaginary freind they ever had.

ANYWAYS...

Why do they look high? Are they supposed to be high?

Crap, now I'll have to google it to see my 4 polygon chests. Such a gigantic hassle man.

Redesign looks okay, though, don't really have a problem with it. As long as they don't cut out or otherwise dramatically change an aspect of the game, I don't really care.

They also apparently toned down the sexual innuendo. Not sure why, considering America is a big fan of that stuff.

Oh man, Kotaku was hilarious back then.
