You don't hate Nintendo? Sounds like you are blinded by hate, actually.

Let's count the casual games on the Wii U (made by Nintendo). Wii Fit U and Wii Party U. TWO FREAKING GAMES OUT OF ALL THEIR GAMES THEY HAVE FOR WII U. I wouldn't call that PANDERING TO THE CASUAL MARKET. In fact, IF THEY HAD BEEN PANDERING THEY WOULD HAVE SURPASSED four million sales. BUT THEY DIDN'T and are STRUGGLING because they made BAD BUSINESS CHOICES. Basically, they did what YOU wanted them to do, try for the hard core gamer, but didn't even execute that right. Another reason for the system to struggle.

Look man, the Wii U isn't vastly under powered. It's not a casual machine like you try to make it out to be. And Nintendos biggest games of the year are hard core titles. ****, THEIR ONLY GAMES we know about are not casual but ****ING hardcore. And we don't even know what's coming up.

And we don't know if Metroid isn't coming. Will you eat your words if it comes in Dec? Star Fox I doubt is coming, but what if it does? Truly, Star Fox hasn't done well. In Nintendo's eyes, people have lost their love for that game. The last GOOD Stat Fox game was a remake, but it didn't even sell that well.

Point is, Nintendo has a lot of hard core games. Wonderful 101, Pikmam 3, Mario 3D World, DK, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, X, and Super Smash. I didn't even list all their games.

Finally, where did Iwata talk about their next generation system? Being based off of POWER ISO isn't a bad thing. If Nintendo EVER goes to ARM or x86 then I'll stop buying Nintendo consoles. Nintendo should CONTINUE being a CUSTOM console and not a ****ING PC like what MS and Sony did.

So offering constructive criticism of Nintendo's business practices equates to blind hatred does it? Right...

There's more than two casual games on the Wii U, you're forgetting Mario and Sonic at the Sochi Winter Olympics, the Lego games as good as they are can constitute casual games, as much as I love Pikmin, it's not a game that will appeal to the traditional gamer, Funky Barn is another game with the casual in mind, Game and Wario, Just dance, Epic Mickey 2, The Smurfs 2, Rabbids land and Tank, Tank, Tank, there's probably more that I've missed.

Now there's quite a few games on the Wii U that are not aimed at casuals, in fact there's probably more of those games but a fair few of those games are gimped ports or games that are rushed onto the Wii U in order to create a quick buck, that's not something I will blame Nintendo for, that reflects on the third party developers themselves.

Where I will blame Nintendo is thinking that an underpowered console with a mandatory gimmick would bring back the traditional gamer. They've also been slow to release their big hitters like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros and any really great non-casuals games they've got in development are probably due out next year or the year after. I really want X, I really want a Fire Emblem game, I really want the Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem cross over game, but there's no news on those games. Why show a game at E3 2013 which probably won't come out until two or three years down the line?

FYI the Wii U is sitting on 5.6 million sales; at this precise moment in time they cannot even get the casual gamers on board or the non-casuals, the only people who have bought Wii U's are those who are Nintendo fans or people like myself who were suckered in to parting with their money based on an impressive E3 direct conference but which hasn't come to fruition.

Will I eat my words in December? If the Wii U becomes a roaring success and if Nintendo have a lot of great games coming out then yes, I will sit down and wolf down a massive slice of humble pie.

Platinum games have stated they want to make a Star Fox game, given how good their games are, I reckon they would create a great Star Fox game, a really great Star Fox game, they're such a talented games developer that I reckon they'd make a Star fox game which surpasses the greatness of Star Fox 64.

As for you not buying another Nintendo console if they adopt the same architecture of their competitors, if it means losing one customer or ten customers who have the same opinions, but it means they gained 20 million more customers, then I think that's a very small price to pay in order to remain relevant and competitive in a very diverse and ever-changing industry.

that's certainly a possibility.  It happened to blackberry.....  could be happening to microsoft and any number of other companies.

I'd be more concerned if the games weren't there. they are still making very good games on both systems.  I know it's slightly apples and oranges but there are 40m 3ds owners and Nintendo titles sell well on that system, so fans are still there. They have the IP arsenal and cash to get things right.  They just need to make the right decisions.  I think they will get it done.  They have been in this position before.

The difference between the 3DS family consoles and the Wii U is that the 3DS family consoles are brilliant handhelds. Yes the 3DS has a gimmicky 3D output, but it is optional, you are not forced to use it in the same way you are forced to use the tablet contoller.

Also the 3DS is very cheap, it's great bang for your buck and as you say the software is immense. The Wii U is expensive, it lacks compelling games, that's not to say it doesn't have some great games, it sure does, but at the moment it is not deemed worthy of investment by a lot of gamers, including many of the people who own a 3DS family console.

For the price of a Wii U, you can pick up a 3DS XL and three games, it's a bargain.

What you don't get is that the 3DS didn't get to where it is now in just a year. That software library took a long time to build up, and it took both Nintendo and the third parties. Also to the 3DS being 'cheap', it was $250 when it came out. Not exactly 'cheap' for a handheld. Right now you can pick up a Wii U for $300 with a game, compared to their competitors that's pretty damn good.

Also, you need to quit giving a flying fk about what 'a lot of gamers' think about the Wii U. A lot of gamers are immature man-children, real children, or just plain idiots. If you're unhappy because they don't like what you like then get over it. However if you're truly so unhappy with the Wii U that you have to flood every single topic by spewing the same crap over and over again then sell it and move on.

You bring up an interesting point- of course the 3ds is cheaper- it's the nature of technology.  Components come down in price every year- almost monthly.  The 3ds will always be the better bargin bc it's older technology.  It wouldn't surprise me if the Wii U dropped in price again this year even tho they say they won't.

Here's a more sensible article on Nintendo.....

I don't consider Sonic and Mario Olympics a casual game. Just like I don't consider Mario Strikers a cash game. And Pikman, a Real Time Strategy games, isn't casual. However, if you consider those games casual then I can see your point being valid.

Now, I've played two Lego games. Lego UnderCover and Lego Batman, and let me tell you - especially Batman - is not casual. It's pretty challenging sometimes. And it's not a game that you can pick up and play for ten to thirty minutes and leave. You have to sit down and listen. Try to figure out what suit you need and how to get that suit. What I define casual games are games like Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Party that are meant to play in small bursts. In fact, I believe Nintendo themselves defined casual games as that.

But the other games you mentioned Nintendo didn't make. If Nintendo is pandering to casual market, they would be making more casual games. Pikman 3 was meant to be a hardcore game. It should have been a launch title.

So, if you define casual games as any game Nintendo makes, then that's fine. If you don't like Mario sport games, if you don't like Pikman, if you don't like Lego UnderCover (which is like Lego GTA - it's freaking brilliant) - then fine. That's your definition and I can't argue with that. Because I don't think there is an official definition for those games.

But in my mind, Nintendo has been trying to get the hardcore back. And that's the problem. They failed at that, and they aren't marketing for the casual market.

Also, developers not making games for Nintendo systems have nothing to do with hardware. Nothing to do with units sold. These are small reasons. The major reason is something Nintendo can't fix. Well, something that can't be fixed easily. The main problem is third party games don't sell well. A few outliers do. But, those are the minority. The games that sell are Nintendo games. That's because Nintendo fans buy their consoles for their games.

Which, by the way, is a way to fix this. Let third party make your older IP's. As long as they do good, and stay faithful to the IP, it will sell, be exclusive and third parties make money. That's what they want anyway. But getting third parties to make games for you isn't going to be easy. And Namco didn't do good with Star Fox, so it's possible it could back fire.

I agree with that article entirely.

If Nintendo was to leave the console industry or become a third party developer and publisher then this industry's standard would fall through the gutter. It's vital for the industry that Nintendo remainds apart of it and remains a competitive driving force in the market which at the moment is not what Nintendo is.

Sony seem to be the driving force behind the industry and have been for many years now. Nintendo seems to a bit of a wallflower content on lingering around in the background.

I would like to Nintendo to become the dominant figure in the games industry because Nintendo while might not always get it right on the hardware front, as the article states Nintendo's games are near enough flawless. Companies like EA and Ubisoft could learn a thing or two from Nintendo EAD.

My frustration with Nintendo is with their software more than anything, it feels like I'm waiting forever for these games to come out. They showed Zelda at E3 2011 and fast forward nearly three years and there's no information on the game whatsoever. Is it even still in development? Nobody knows.

It's not just Zelda. Yarn Yoshi is something I'm really looking forward to, but again there's no information. Super Smash Bros has been touted for a Q4 2014 release, yet they're still picking characters, so I don't think it's coming out until next year. X is much the same, as is SMTXFE which I'm really forward too, hell does Bayonetta 2 even have a release date?

It's frustrating that Sony games and Microsoft gamers are kept in the loop where as Nintendo gamers get an odd Nintendo Direct which seems to focus on the 3DS more than the Wii U.

That said when is Shin Megami Tensei 4 coming out in Europe? Why am I being punished by this region locking garbage?

If I was Nintendo CEO I would get Platinum Games to make a Star Fox game. Given just how great their games are I reckon they would revive Star Fox.

I refuse to believe that Star Fox is a dead franchise, sure it has had a couple of not so great games on the Gamecube and DS, but that doesn't mean the next installment will be bad.

Also Shin'en should make a new Fzero game and Retro should make a Metroid game.

Get those three franchises out and I reckon the Wii U will automatically become more appealing to a lot more people.

I agree with you, but it's a massive seller and the fact that it's the best selling franchise on the last gen and current consles says everything. It's a universally popular franchise and I hope it remains on the Wii U.

That Zelda game wasn't a game. It was purely a tech demo. It's possible they might use the same engine for the Wii U Zelda game, but as the GCN years taught us, a tech demo is just a tech demo.

Star Fox is my favorite Nintendo IP. I love it. However, that doesn't mean everyone has the same feeling. I don't know if a Star Fox game would help Nintendo like a Metroid game surely would. I've personally never been an F-Zero fan, however I would play said game if it comes out.

But the quote you had didn't state Star Fox is a dead series. All it stated is that letting third parties use your IP can be dangerous, because if they don't do a good job it could hurt that IP's reputation. I know I lost all expectation of a good Star Fox game once I played Star Fox from Namco. I bought that and returned it day one.

However, please acknowledge that NINTENDO HAS STATED they are going to LET THIRD PARTIES use their IP. It's official. We just don't know who and what games.

Well they have to be careful don't they? Platinum Games have shown they are a competent and capable developer and Next Level Games did a fantastic job with Luigi's Mansion 2.

That said I wouldn't let companies like Capcom or Namco Bandai anywhere near my IP's.

Nintendo should use smaller developers like the two I have mentioned who were over the moon to work with Nintendo and it shows in their games.

Namco isn't a bad developer or publisher. They just didn't do good with Star Fox, but neither did Rare in my opinion.

Developers, other then the two you mentioned, that Nintendo should work with would be Bungee (they could make a wonderful Metroid game), Activision (I all ready said they could make a wonderful Pokemon game using the NFC feature built in), and finally Ubisoft. Ubisoft could be Nintendo biggest ally.
