DK Tropical Freeze: summary:

 

Seems like generic worlds, ice, beach, jungle but “the variety is amazing”

Ride minecarts through saw mills, dash through a forest with a raging fire, etc.

Great difficulty balance, bonus stages are a bit ridiculous in difficulty though that is expected.

Water levels return, are very fun, better to control with analog stick than d-pad. For some reason you have to access the menu to pick one or the other.

Dixie and Cranky add new moves that work best to reach certain collectibles or specific platforming challenges. Rotating barrels allow you to select the best Kong for the job.

6 worlds instead of 8 in the last game. But each level is larger. Reviewer says it rather have a smaller collection of the best levels Retro can make than a more bloated game with less quality levels and that is exactly what this game does.

Anyway, this is good news, but we already knew it would get good reviews since it's retro and donkey kong.

 

Cranky Kong gave them a quarter not realizing it would go towards the score.. he was hoping it would get him a condom from the machine.

Nice....just bought Mario 3D World (which is great) when it went on sale for $39.99.  I think I'll wait for $30 for DKC and then get that, too.  I always loved these games but couldn't get into the Wii one for some reason.  Honestly, the lack of HD in a world where I was used to HD already might have been the issue.

I'm on the fence about this game. I want to play the first one as well, but I haven't played a Donkey Kong game in forever. Plus I have limited money to go towards this or Bravely Default.

The demo is good. I will probably get it at some point. probably Spring Break. Thinking about getting Donkey Kong 3D and Ligi's Mansion on 3DS at some point also too. Wow. so many games!!! Can't wait til X and Smash/Mariokart!!! Donkey Kong in HD would actually be really cool!! NEED MONEY!!!

I have to warn you people about bravely default.

The first 25 hours of the game are great. The first 3/4 of the game, great, almost like squeenix wasnt a giant mountain of crap or something.

But then, the end game becomes an annoy to pay paywall, where the design becomes so tedious and atrocious, I can only believe squeenix purposefully designed it that way to get you to buy the sp potions from the online store just to make the boss fights and dungeon you have to repeat 4-5x (not an exaggeration) go by faster.

You have been warned.

Anyways, on topic.

The scores expected, Its retro, they are awesome, and if I wasnt sick of platformers on my wii u, and starving for anything thats more mentally stimulating than going left to right and jumping, I would immediately buy it asap.

Maybe Ill buy it after beating X and unwinding in pleasant gaming contentness.

Just read ONM UK, they gave Tropical Freeze 86%. Not too shabby but I was expecting a bit better.

 

Hope Amazon send my copy early.
