What if Nintendo completely westernised their image and started doing everything from advertising to console design with the western world in mind, similar to the image Sony and Microsoft have?

How would you feel, would you still support them?

Also, do you think they would be successful, have more third party support etc. like Sony and MS if they did?

I can only wonder if their games would change a lot. obviously there would be some games (like X) that they would stop making but would they be like sony and throw away amazing franchises like spyro, crash, jak and daxter to go after the audience that plays all these M/18 rated games? I know sony still make things like Knack and little big planet but there is no denying that they make more "adult" games than nintendo do.

They don't have enough money to do that.

The thing is, they can't change their image. No one would ever take them seriously.

No, they dont. Those games you are referring to are manchild games. They target teens, who dont understand what 'adult' is, and 'adults' wwho have yet to grow up and are suffering arrested development, and are going to end up living in a van down by the river.

Real adults have families children and responsibilities, such as playing games that are appropriate for their children to watch and play with them. And as long as they are doing that, might as well be some of the best games ever made.

We already have two identical machines, why do these morons keep wanting everything to be exactly the same?

I think Nintendo would simply be doing Nintendo games only in a bigger scale.

Also I feel Sony tends to follow where it's core audience is going and the through the decade the gamer has matured and so has their story telling and settings. Still I believe Sony hasn't abandon those franchises entirely, the Spyros, Jak and Dexter, etc. since they seem to understand that they have a wide verity of gamers wanting those games as well; hence little big planet being a flagship title on ps3.

They are perceived as more "adult" because they are story driven with real-life themes.

So real adults only play games that are suitable for children? Does that mean someone is a bad parent if they play violent games or if they watch game of thrones?

I don't think it would work.

I mostly see Nintendo as a wise old samurai that although he lives in partial isolation among the cherry trees he's still the very best.

i doubt it.

The most likly senario where this happens, It would happen during nintendo's 9th gen consul launch, and hopefully nintendo will bring in a veriety of gamers with it. For me, as long as nintendo doesnt stop making amazing games, i wouldnt really care. If they do stop then id go to PC only.

nintendo just needs to hire some new people and set up from being kiddy.

They do make some great games but they arent strong enough to stand on there own. They need some help from some 3rd part and need some none nintendo games that are on the nintendo only.

lol nintendo exclusives not made by nintendo.

and ya logo needs to be update it looks too muchlike the wii and ads dont market it to the middle age group.

Because they think the world revolves around them and therefore all video games should be tailored made to their tastes.

Who are these people you guys are talking about? This is just a hypothetical scenario, I haven't heard anyone saying this would be a great idea. I just wanted to know what people would think if this happened.

Yes, he said it.  There are real adults, and there are the modern selfish, narcissistic manchildren who want to spend their entire lives pretending like they're still in college.

And now that I just finished putting my daughter to bed, I think I'll go play "kiddie Nintendo games." :)

They don't have enough money to do that.

They have 10 billion dollars in the bank. Probably less because of the Wii U now tho

no I wouldnt want them to be the same as Microsoft and Sony but I do think they can do more to balance their image and become more attractive to the "core" gamers.... dont make a big deal of the word core you guys know what I mean. The problems Nintendo have are not that hard to fix it just takes them geting out of their own way.

Nintendo just needs to pump out one of their more adult toned games every now and then, at least to balance their family friendly/kid/casual crowd. No one is asking for a drastic shift, especially not their Japanese developer partners.

They do have all the excuses to stop making platformers though.
