VR is becoming the next big thing. Do you think Nintendo should try to do this again?

 

My serious response is this. R&D is good, but let the other companies push out products that are add-ons and not providing a super great overall experience. Then upon next console release include the technology with the hardware.

I have to agree with Nollog on this one, it's a wasted effort. What people expect of VR and what the technology is actually capable of are two entirely different things. I just find it funny that Nintendo would get slammed so hard for this kind of thing and yet people don't say a thing when Sony tries a crazy gimmick.

Not until next gen. and make it optional then too. Dont use it as a tack-on to the wiiU.

Last time VR was popular Nintendo tried Virtual Boy. VR like 3D VR is a fad that pops in every so often praised as the next big thing then fades away again. VR as long as you need something on your head will never take off.

3DS is close enough.

As others have said, the technology is not advanced enough right now.  I also worry about whether or not the companies have thought about how to implement it properly, and whether they considered the space necessary for it.  If the camera is controlled by the headset, you'll need to be in a swivel chair with no wires attached to you.  Wasn't there also a question of the cost?  That could be an issue.

Its too early to judge but if VR becomes really popular then why not?

The technology is probably at the point where Nintendo can probably pull it off, but it will have to be with a console designed from the start to support it, or be a form of "third leg" that's independent of the console and handheld. It'd work, but the experience would be completely different than what nintendo consoles have always served.

Doubtful. Unless they can pull off the Matrix because that's the point where people would pay for it.

The Oculus Rift shows that it works fine (with a powerful enough system). It is possible, especially with a dedicated console using technology from a few years in the future.

 

The only thing that might stand in the way is how the human mind handles being immersed in an environment with a different art style, specifically those that draw attention to details that exists and away from details that don't (for example windwaker vs "realistic" PS2 games).

If Nintendo can come up with a better control style, then why not? I just think that the only thing holding these VR thingos is the control setup, it doesn't feel right controlling a game in first person like that using a controller. Needs some pretty advanced motion control IMO (like kinect but working).

The NES's power glove was pretty accurate, but was limited by the capabiities of the NES. An upgraded version of that could work.

Nintendo didn't even make the power glove. It was just a licensed 3rd party accessory. Nintendo had no involvement with the development of it. It was made by Mattel.

People always credit Nintendo for it for some reason.
