It can be tempting to think of Nintendo as standing alone in terms of companies with powerful executives that are also charming, affable individuals; we see that side of Satoru Iwata and colleagues frequently in Nintendo Direct broadcasts. It'd be wrong to think these are qualities only found within Nintendo, however, as there are a number of other executives well known for similar qualities.

One example is Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, who is not only prolific in engaging with fans via Twitter — also tweeting his support for small development projects — but also above company rivalries. He's spoken very sensibly about why he wants the Wii U to succeed, for example, while highlighting that he owns two of the systems.

He's also been active on Miiverse on occasion, and in an amusing aside as part of a public event discussing his career with Mark Cerny (reported by Engadget), he admits that he's fallen foul of Miiverse moderators and received two temporary bans.

The first time was because I had my Twitter account in my profile and that's against the rules. The second time is because I wrote, 'I love PS.' You're not supposed to promote a commercial product in MiiVerse, so they correctly interpreted 'PS' as 'PlayStation,'

This was shared with a laugh, we should add, so there's no concern of this becoming a diplomatic incident.

This humble writer has only had one telling off for missing a "spoiler" tag on one occasion, and bizarrely had the word "balls" auto-censored on the Wii Sports Club: Tennis Miiverse functionality. Have you gotten into any trouble on Miiverse?

This is hilarious.

I got the same thing when I put my Youtube link in my profile. However anytime I mentioned admirations for PS3 or older SEGA systems or mentioned Xbox in posts they were left as is.

I am glad for a consoles social service it's as strict as it is. This way can avoid the flaming and BS that goes on in XBL or Twitch chat on PS4 or people abusing PS4 twitch for crap not even gaming related. Miiverse is great. Tho shu getting banned is funny and he owns two WiiU's. Reminds me when Shiggy was a big fan of Dreamcast and was his go to console before Gamecube launched. (shiggy was also a fan of Samba and likely why we got a port on Wii)

I had trouble with WiiFit U. In that game everybody can create a Gym Community and ask friends to join that community. The community is tagged with a Community number. It's in exactly the same format as the friends numbers. So, when communicating your gym on Miiverse, you get banned.

My question is:

If the reason for Nintendo's strict ruling is the protection of children, and keeping Miiverse a safe place....why do they promote kids (and all other users) to communicate their friends and community codes via extern media. Forums are much darker places on the internet. I'd rather see my kids using miiverse (including code-communication) then my kids traveling to a place like WiiUforums with its diverse user group.

Well, thats what happens when you have stupid people targeting Nintendo for frivolous lawsuits like 'My child was attacked by an online predator via pictochat on ds!!!!!'* BECAUSE of that family image, and places like fox and abc news running with it full speed with not a single attempt at fact checking.

* (Pictochat DS was non online capable.)

This is a reaction to things people have done.

All Nintendo has to do is have people sign an agreement before they start using it saying that Nintendo is not liable for inappropriate conduct but they are actively trying to stop it blah blah blah and people have to agree with it before using the service. How do Sony and Microsoft handle it?

Even with those in place XBL ESP and PSN is a cesspool of garbage.
