I know that a lot of PC gamers hate Crytek for what it did to the Crysis series but let’s face it; this studio had a lot of potential. And when we say a lot, we mean A LOT. German videogames magazine “Gamestar” has reported that Crytek is in big trouble and that it may go bankrupt.

According to Gamestar, the adoption of CRYENGINE is not going well and the word-of-mouth at GDC was negative. Strangely enough, CRYENGINE is currently one of the most optimized engines, so Crytek should really look into its subscription prices otherwise this amazing engine may never be used by other triple-A developers.

Not only that, but Gamestar claims that the development of Ryse was catastrophic for the studio. Just mere months before its release, the game was severely behind and Crytek was able to complete it with additional manpower. And from what we’ve seen thus far, Ryse did not sell as good as Crytek hoped (especially for a console exclusive).

Things are definitely not looking good for Crytek and while Avni Yerli claimed that a cash injection for the company is finally imminent (with a contract to be signed really soon), a lot of big publishers are waiting for a possible bankrupt in order to sign the talent and shop the IPs from Crytek.

For what is worth, Wargaming is listed as a possible buyer of Crytek. If Wargaming does buys Crytek, we can kiss goodbye to all of the studio’s single-player games (as Wargaming is best known for its Free-To-Play games). In short, this may be the end of the Crytek we knew.

But what has happened and the team is facing this major financial issues? According to Yerli, there were “dramatized rumors” from disgruntled ex-employers, something that obviously had a negative impact to Crytek’s public image. Moreover, Gamestar reported that salaries were paid late and leading employees were sending applications to other studios at home and abroad. And if that wasn’t enough, Warface was only successful in Russia and Crytek’s G-face platform was a big flop.

In short, Crytek is currently in deep trouble and we don’t know whether the studio will be able to recover. And yes, PC gamers can now say to Crytek “We told you so, you had to keep Crysis exclusive to the PC and keep pushing the graphical boundaries.”

So yes, today you have the right to say that you told them so.

Shocker releasing a bunch of shined up turds hurt your company!? Who would of thunk it!

They're probably going to get bought out by either EA or Ubisoft.

Spend millions on making an un-fun game look shiny, then expect sales. No wonder they're failing. Not even upset really, once companies like crytek die we get a more fun gaming industry.

No. Crysis sucked after 1 and Crytek released nothing good since. Only thing I would want is them to get Crytek USA put them in retro as those guys are Vigil who made Darksiders plus I believe they are still in Austin Texas just like Retro. Rest of crytek can sink in a pit for all I care.

Na, the crysis name is tainted. But the engine on the other hand, oh boy

Guess that whole "free to play is the next big thing!" Idea didn't work out so well, eh?

Too bad this is how they learn their lesson.

Hopefully they rebound. A next gen Crysis would work out well for them.

Honestly surprised that their new engine licensing isn't helping the bottom line. It's so affordable, hobbyists should be snatching it up along with pros.

This is what happens when you have developers not skilled enough to make good games and put graphics before everything else.

Could buy some of their graphics guys and add them to Retro since Cytek was pretty good at getting a lot out of consoles. Their IP's all sucked though.

cryengine isn't doing so well because everyone who doesn't make their own engines, uses unreal because of all the hype that softshell lizard guy generates for it, cryengine is far better, but too bad, better doesn't mean successful, like how wii u is better than p4 and x1.

No, Nintendo should stay far away from them.

Except for Crytek USA. They are working on a Game now but they already put out 2 under their former name Vigil. Darkiders and Darksiders II

The last couple of Crysis games wre pretty great.

And Crytek makes engines. The games sell the engines. Much like epic.

But I think the real issue is twofold:

1) poor marketing. They could stand to learn a few things there.

2) alliance with EA. pretty much doomed at that point.

Nintendo should purchase Crytek.

Would mean awesome things for game diversity, ip and freaking top notch tech.

Retro and Crytek on the same team? Yes please.

That would mean we could potentially have at least one AAA impressive game every year.

Consider this: a steep upfront investment where Nintendo buys capcom and Crytek both?

Would show Iwata has guts and foresight instead of quick fix mentality.

Crytek's various studios have been bleeding staff, cancelling games (including a sequel to Xbox One exclusive Ryse), and struggling to pay staff, according to sources speaking to Kotaku and Eurogamer

Kotaku's ten sources (former and current Crytek employees) talked about repeated missed payments, four spoke on an employee mandate that salary issues not be discussed over email. Missed payments reportedly followed a new IP being cancelled, followed by Ryse 2 being canned. The latter -- a breakdown in the partnership with Microsoft -- could be a big part of the problem.

Some are concerned with Crytek moving away from its first-person PC shooter bread and butter to make a new MOBA et al. Thirty have left Homefront's Crytek UK since 2011, Eurogamer reports.  Free Radical Design co-founder Karl Hilton has left his role at Crytek UK as managing director.

Crytek has publicly denied financial trouble and a failure to pay staff.

You know what would really chap a lot of fanboy azzez is if Nintedo do what they did for Bayonetta and Devil's Third with Ryse and fund this game.  True we will hear that is wasn't a great game and it not going to sell anyway blah blah blah... But if Nintedo funded it, the Ryse team got it to look as good as what we saw on Xbox One if not better,  a Wii U exclusive, and Gampad added features to game play and off tv paly who knows just how good the sequel could be.
