In my quest to determine the Wii U's exact hardware... this is about the most I can contribute.
So far the generally agreed upon fact is that the Wii U will have a GPU currently being called a R770 and is to be made by AMD (ATI).

Having a good bit of experience in PC hardware I heard "R770" and immediately went to Wikipedia to confirm my thoughts.

Now looking at prototype names AMD used for this line of GPUs we can narrow this down to three specifc GPUs. Those being the 4830 (R770LE), the 4850 (R770PRO), and the 4870 (R770XT). Most likely the 4870 as it remains the most unmodified from the first design, with the other two having parts of the core disabled, so moderately defective core can be used (Sounds bad, but if you know alot about semiconductor manufacturing it makes sense.)
Having just upgraded from a PC running a 4870 I can vouch for these certianly being workhorses and much much more powerful than what current consoles hold. That and having them handle both an HDTV and the controller (about 480P) when current AMD drivers allow 6 HD displays at once, it shouldn't be a problem.
I know that doesn't clear much up, but it's about the best I can determine from this.

I too came to the conclusion of 4870. It fits and it is advanced enough to run Cyrsis at 30fps and most other games at 60fps. A solid video card. It may be a customized 4870 however and a smaller one due to the advancement of manufacturing.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Something within the performance range of the 4850 and 4870 is what I suspected before, but Neogaf focusing on something within the range of a 4830 to slightly above sort of curved my over all enthusiasm. Overall I'm confident that the final GPU will be newer in design and architecture than the R770 or simply the 4000 series in general. Though it may not be concurrent tech from AMD. 4870 based speculation was at its hay day several months ago since then the general focus has moved away from those articles and leaks that pointed to something in that range.

yea it still seems like people think the wii u will be using a bare minimums graphics card i still think nintendo is gonna make this console a powerhouse and its been looking that way
