The wii u will be backwards compatible with the wii, but what about our save files? I know you can put the save files for SOME games on to an sd card but not all games allow this and its not always fun to start over. What are your thoughts on this?

I had to start over with my new Wii, because my original white one broke. :/
I don't know if it will transfer the data, though. Hopefully it will.

I think Nintendo did say that they were going to make it so you could basically import the whole of your Wii to the Wii U. (Miis, save data, games, etc)) So no worries, I suppose.

They will definitely make it so we can transfer our Wii Shop games and probrably Miis and other stuff over, but Im not sure about saves because hackers could then transfer hacked saves, but who knows. Maybe they'll run a program that scans them to see if they're official.

I sure they will do something like let you download a program like on the DSi/3DS to transfer all your data in one quick transfer. I know that some games like Brawl and Mario Kart Wii don't let you copy them, so as I see it, this is the only way to do it. I just hope you can copy the save file to the Wii U rather than just move the save file off the Wii to the Wii U.

Although, I don't know about online saves.
You could transfer save data on Wii games, just not multiplayer data (prevent cheating or some such).
It would have to be a one-way transfer for it to work that way.

This topic is about the transfer of save data, not the games themselves. I'm quite sure there will be an easy way to transfer the latter, seeing how elegantly they pulled off the DSi -> 3DS transfer process. Can't say anything about save files, though - those were deleted during the DSi -> 3DS transfer - but I hope that the Wii -> Wii U transfer process retains them, even if they end up being deleted from the original Wii.

Nah I cant be bothered/wouldnt know what ones to deleted. The limit is too small
although I have hardly made any mii's on 3ds yet.
