Your taste in games can be. I hate WRPGs but Skyrim, DA, etc are praised like messiahs. It's not best game, it's favourite, so....

Best=Favourite for these things. Journalists are stupid that way.  More people liked Shadows of Mordor then Bayo 2, so I'm predicting SoM will win Best Action game(Though not here, since Nintendo is closing)

I honestly thinking learning the languages helps understand "bad" accents. Never have a problem understanding either of these. Don't miss a word in Nintendo directs (or when miyamoto was talkig earlier) and didn't miss a word a minute ago. #HumbleBrag

In all seriousness, I think another key factor is that Nintendo Handhelds/Games have been increasingly viewed as "Childish." Up until this year, Mobile gaming hasn't been strong enough to compete. This year, the arguably greatest Digital Card Game was born and ported to iOS. It's more of an example of bad timing, much like how Smash was basically able to dominate fighting games by nearly every other contender BEING a port/enhanced version.

Once again, it's subjective on if it's better. Hearthstone has more players, Hearthstone is still a game actively mentioned by people, etc. Also, Fighting games are a niche gaming thing nowdays, so...

 

And it's basically a popularity contest. These ALWAYS are.
