Nintendo says they’re not finished making Mario Kart 8 DLC, with focus aimed at maintaining player interest by introducing additional download content between now and March 2016.
Spelled out within the fine print of Nintendo’s most recent consolidated financial statements, dated May 7, Nintendo plans to release more Mario Kart 8 DLC through March 2016. It’s part of their outlook for the current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2016.
“Specifically, by sequentially introducing additional download content for blockbuster titles such as ‘Mario Kart 8’ and ‘Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U,’ we aim to keep these titles played more actively,” Nintendo revealed.
Download content could be anything ranging from a new line of Mii racing suits — accessible via free software update — to more tracks, vehicles, and iconic characters. Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 2 released April 23, adding three new racers, four new vehicles, and eight new tracks.
We already know Nintendo plans to release more download content for both versions of Super Smash Bros.; Lucas joins the battle in June. That’s just the beginning, too, as Nintendo’s Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot lets fans vote for their favorite fighter.
As of March 31, 2015, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U have sold a total of 5.11 million and 3.65 million units, respectively, worldwide.
