http://www.ign.com/a...-as-current-gen

IGN apperently got 720 news and is saying it will release in October/November 2013 and will be 20% more powerful then the Wii U, which is very close.

So if they are telling the truth the Wii U is the PS2 while the 720 will be the Gamecube of next gen in power. (or maybe even Dreamcast to PS2 which was also 20% of a difference.)

Edit: I've been reading and apparently the Wii U's GPU is stronger then the 720's GPU while the 720 CPU is more stronger then the Wii U's CPU.

So if that is true then it's like a tie.

I'm not surprised. Heck I was expecting the Next-Box to be 30% stronger or less than the Wii U.
This is all going well and it's nice to know Nintendo wouldn't be very far behind the competition in terms of horsepower.

Well they also said the GPU will be based of the Radeon HD 6670. I dont know if this rumor is true, cuz wouldnt 6x more powerful be really expensive?

Well, I hope the Wii U still does good when it launches, despite the fact that the next Xbox might be 20% stronger.

We don't 100% know if IGN is talking about 20% more powerful then the old dev kits or 20% more powerful then the final dev kits, so it's possible that either the Wii U is more powerful then the 720 or the 720 is 20% more powerful then the Wii U.

I just hope it's like the 6th gen (last gen). Where each console was very close in power, so the 20% makes me REALLY happy because both the Wii U and 720 will be = for multiplatform games.

Since they aren't that far off in power, Nintendo shouldn't have any problems getting multiplatform games on their system.

Who give a f*** wat IGN says? They post the most idiotic articles of gaming history. They made a big issue over the Controller for having circle pads over sticks and for not having a camera on the back side.

It's weird, 20% sounds like a lot. It would kind of be nice to see what type of difference 20% is. I think that it is important to remember that the we don't actually know the full details of the Wii U and the Nextbox hasn't even been announced yet, but I guess it is quite fun to speculate.

LOL, I just read a comment on IGN where the person said "I'll only buy it if it's made by Aperture Science! They make the best A.I.'s...". I would totally buy an XBox Whatever if it meant I could have my own personal GLaDOS. That would be totally awesome........totally. :D

Actually im a little annoyed they didnt put a camera on the back too. in my opion it probably would have been better there alongside a front facing one too though i guess nintendo just wanted to cut cost

20% is hardly a difference and from what i read the gpu in the wii u is stronger the cpu in the 720 is said to be stronger than the wii u though

Yeah I saw a comment and he explained the difference between Wii U and 720 GPU

Wii U Radeon 4850/4870 vs. XBox 720 Radeon 6670

Transistor count in millions: 965 vs. 716
Size in nm (nano meter): 55 vs. 40
Frequency in MHz: 750-800 vs. 800
Shader-Units: 160 vs. 96
GPU-Power in GFLOPs: 1.000-1-280 vs. 768
ROPs: 16 vs. 8
Pixel Fillrate in MPix/s: 10.000-12.800 vs. 6.400
TMUs: 40 vs. 24
TAUs: 40 vs. 24
Shader-Model: SM 4.1 vs. SM 5

As you see, the Wii U's GPU is much better then 720's GPU while the 720's CPU is better then Wii U's CPU.

Wii U Radeon 4850/4870 vs. XBox 720 Radeon 6670

Time for a stupid question:

Why is it that a superior GPU has a lower number than an inferior GPU? We all know that a better quality product should always have a higher number. I think they did this specifically to confuse me. Time to be paranoid...

Why is it that a superior GPU has a lower number than an inferior GPU?  We all know that a better quality product should always have a higher number.  I think they did this specifically to confuse me.  Time to be paranoid...

Because the 4870 was a part of the earlier graphics generation. The 4xxx series.
This came before the 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx series.

Graphics cards are typically numbered like so:
The largest place value is the generation (e.g the 5 in Nvidia 580 or 4 in Radeon 4870)
The other numbers denote that card's place in that generation (performance wise).

As chipsets evolve and GPUs get faster, previous top of the line chips (like the 4870) get equaled in power by lower class chips in a new generation.

Of note is the Wiiu's "rumored" GPU isnt superior in all ways to the 720's rumored GPU.
The 4870 lacks support for hardware tesselation, but the 6670 does support hardware tesselation.

In terms of raw computing power, and fillrate however, the 4870 is indeed superior.

I am unsure how much of a strain tesselation will put on the 6670, but I do know that the 5xxx series were particulary low performing when tesselation was used, even on the highest end chipset.

6670 also supports DirectX11 and uses a more sophisticated shader model (something that held back the Wii greatly, not just the fact it wasn't HD). But the 4870 can do more processing at once, fill in more pixels quickly, do things faster and let's not forget the 4870 will be customized to be smaller and produce less heat and use up less energy (probably around 40nm instead of the 55nm), and they may add DirectX11 support. But if you do a straight comparison, the 4870 wins in many benchmarks.

My source:
4870 = 1741 G3D Mark
6670 = 1227 G3D Mark
(Higher Number is better)

http://www.videocard...=Radeon+HD+4870
http://www.videocard...=Radeon+HD+6670

As you can see in the link below, no matter how much VRAM Nintendo dedicates to the 4850 or 4870 (either 512MB or 1GB). The 512MB 4850is most likely if also have 1GB of regular RAM

Ignore the GTX 295, that's my own video card and I got curious :P

http://www.graphicsc...om/page/compare

Also ignore the orange and red bars, you have to include 8 video cards so i just chose randomly. Focus on the 6670 and up (yellow and green)

EDIT: Can't post the pics. Use the website yourselves. Compare the video cards it gives you expected performance % it's awesome.

Even the lowest end 4850 is said to outperform the 6670 by 10.6% (that's the cheapest possible Rv700 card Nintendo could use.)
The mid-range RV700 card the 4870 512GB outperforms the 6670 by 39.4%
The upper-mid range card 4850 1GB outperforms the 6670 by 15.6%
The highest RV700 card the 4870 1GB outperforms the 6670 by 44.3%
