Sony is “confident” that the firm will have its next-generation console out the door before competitor Microsoft, claims a new report.

VG247 has heard from various sources that the successor to the PlayStation 3 will be out before Christmas 2013 – the rumored launch window for Xbox 720.

Furthermore, tech specs for the new hardware were apparently put in place two years ago.

"Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time," said a source.

“Top line” publishers are already in the loop on Sony’s plans, says another source, adding “they’re already working on [PS4]”


If this is legit then they either did this for the Wii U or they just really want to beat Microsoft.

I like playstation and nintendo mostly so this is good news. Plus the recent xbox spec leak suggests that it will be on par or weaker than wii u and we know how alot of xbox fans are with thier extreme want for the best graphics. This doesnt look good for microsoft honestly, so im guessing this is a good move for sony especially considering that they dont really want a super powerful console

To be honest I hope it is worse than the Wii U to give me a reason to buy the Wii u over it, because I really want a new nintendo console but I dont think I would be able to go past a better console like the PS4 (that is, if it is better I'm saying)

Well I probably could, but with the prices I'm expecting especially ps4 it would have to be after a lot of saving, hard as a student!

Also what I was thinking was because the wii u is trying to get more 3rd party developer support then it would be fine to just have the wii u for Nintendo + other normal good games instead of both, if that makes sense!

There is a quote button under everyone's comments. though the site may be different when using an ipad

And yea i can understand where your coming from as a fellow student.

Thats why im hoping the wii u is quite capable of giving me a true next gen experience that way i can hold off on getting the ps4 for a while.
