I think in both a religious and scientific point of view, both answers would be no because Dolphins still act based on instinct, rather than the will because it's right or wrong.

But I may be incorrect so please feel free to debunk my idea.

Just read what I wrote in the first post, those are the reasons I think dolphins are people. At the very least it's been proven that they don't act purely on instinct, and can show reason.

Don't worry I have read your opening statement. It's just that I have troubles seeing and believing any animal acting on something that doesn't give them self gain.

I've called 'the market' people.
I've called 'chairs' people.
I've called 'oranges' people.

But I've never called dolphins people. It just... feels off.

Well, they would fit perfectly on the psycho side of people.

I mean, the Simpsons weren't a joke, the dolphins are really the jerks of the ocean. Kidnapping females, killing for pleasure, eating people...

They're worse than the sharks, but that's not much, since sharks aren't evil.

I think it depends on what you define as "people" because some define them as human and others define them as beings capable of thought. They are capable of thought and have an astonishing ability to reason. They have even social systems. So in some sense they are and in some they aren't.

Well, they would fit perfectly on the psycho side of people.

I never knew they kidnapped females. O.o and there are only few cases of them eating people. Thanks you opened my eyes.

No......

(This topic is so weird)

Hi, my name is Alph. I live on a planet named Koppai. I am famous for saving my planet from starvation. My best friends are Brittany and Captain Olimar, NOT Captain Charlie. I like surfing the KopNet and playing Kopetball.

They might be very clever animals, but I don't believe they are as clever as people (well, they maybe cleverer than some of the really stupid people out there) and I don't consider them to be people.

I believe that all living entities are potentially persons and that all persons are essentially perfect.

What do you mean when you say perfect?

This is a good example: http://today.msnbc.m...t/#.T5cV4bPLzSg

There are many reliable news stories on the internet where dolphins have saved people, there's probably a few YouTube videos too :)

Well, I subscribe to the view that all living entities are spiritual beings part and parcel of the Absolute. Any sense of imperfection arises as a by-product of material conditioning. Once all of that is stripped away, what is left is a being of pure will; where one's intent and actions are perfectly in line and where that intent is perfectly in line with one's eternal nature in relation to the Supreme Absolute Truth.

I honestly don't understand you. What do you mean by "Once all of that is stripped away, what is left is a being of pure will"? Once everything is stripped away isn't there is nothing?

Why would there be nothing if we are different from these material bodies?

Okay may I ask you why wouldnt there be nothing? Your argument is completely based on morals and beliefs and sorry to say this but we cant all relate to them. No one is perfect and that goes for this whole world. Not everyone believes in spiritual beings (I am an atheist so I dont). So right now you are using a false cause fallacy.
