If at E3 Nintendo revealed that games on the Wii U are going back to be on CARTRIDGES!!!!! I would laugh my ass off. But if Nintendo made a new type of Cartridge where it can hold more then a disc that would be cool. I miss having to blow on the cartridge to get it to work lol.

That might not be as absurd as you think. If you think about it, a flash memory cartridge holding about 50GB is quite possible. Might be a little more expensive to mass produce than a High Density Disk, or whatever Nintendo is planning on using, but it would be much faster for loading times. Then again, maybe it won't be too expensive. Flash memory is getting cheaper every day.

Personally, I like the idea.

Nintendo does mix it up. Cartridges on NES, SNES, N64. Small Discs on GC and then Big Discs on Wii. They could mix it up again and surprise us. Cause if anyone innovates new stuff its Nintendo. I wouldnt doubt they could make some new thing. There was the rumor awhile ago that since the Wii U (At least as of now since we dont know) doesnt have a built in harddrive that they made some new kind of disc better then blue ray that you could save DLC and such right onto the disc. Meaning you dont need a hard drive lol.

It would add necessary extra cost. Sure speeds could be faster than a disc, however according to Pach, flash chips cost more than manufacturing a disc.

I would laugh also, but I will also try and consider the benefits and disadvantages.

There are many flaws with Pachter's argument, and Sony went to cartridges for PSV, so technically we did go back to cartridges.

I don't think it'll happen though.

I like were it is at now, portables have cartridges and home consoles have discs. Even though I would not really care if the Wii U had cartridges.

I wouldn't mind too much, as long as the games are great. But there will be problems, even though they are more reliable and protective as discs, they will be expensive and I don't want to blow on them every time I play them. It could put of buyers, as well.

InPhase is a closed, failed project unfortunately. Nintendo may have learned something though from that experiment.

Anyone remember that rumour that appeared months ago that the 720 won't support a disc drive and instead support a form of cartridge or restrict its users to digital downloads only.
