Simple. Is it region locked. If I got one from China could I play games on it I buy in the US? Is there anything I need to be careful of? Thanks!

I assure you It's region free. Only thing to worry about is language barriers.

Nope, the PS3 is one of the very few consoles to have no region lock. Same with the PSP and Vita. It's one of the things I really like about Sony consoles these days. :D

The only thing is, I believe PSN accounts are tied to region. So buying one from China I suppose would mean that specific account could only access the Chinese PSN Store, if there even is one... I think it's very easy to get around though, just involves making another account through the US/EU PSN.

This should help you.

The PlayStation 3 is region-free for PS3 games. There is only region locking for backwards compatible PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, as well as DVD and Blu-ray Disc movies. Additionally, some games separate online players per region, such as Metal Gear Solid 4 Online. PlayStation Store only contains content for its own country, for example the UK store will not supply usable map packs for an imported US copy of Call of Duty 4. The PS3 actually supports hardware region locking for PS3 games as well, based on Blu-ray Disc regions and a mechanism that allows for the game to query the model of the PS3, but as of current it is unused and all current region lockouts and separations are about online services.

What about an electrical conversion kit? Does it take the same electrical outlet as USA?

No it doesn't you'll either need to buy a usa ac cord (if it's slim make sure it's a figure 8 cord) or get an adapter.

It was region-locked is what it says.
Along with DVD and BD playback, PS2 BC is region-locked.

SCE doesn't support region locking anymore I believe, They used to but not anymore. Everything they have made since then has been region free.

Where as nintendo's handhelds did a U-Turn with the DSi and 3DS, dissapointing.

They are afraid of losing money because they think people will buy from a different region, therefore the regional branch loses money. Or something like that >_> It's a stupid logic I know -_-

Though their 3DS excuse sounds more pleasing:

"There are a number of different factors that come into it," he explained. "Part of it is, when you're looking at the software and the different areas, what additional features are included that may not necessarily be available in other territories.
"For example, we might have one territory where there's downloadable content that's not necessarily either suitable or we don't have the means to do it in another territory. So therefore it may not be compatible.
"The other thing is, if we look at it at on a regional basis, we have to be very conscious of – the customer may not really care about this, but different territories have different ratings. We're very conscious of making sure we tow the line as far as government goes there. In Europe we've got PEGI. In Australia there's a different rating. America's got a different rating. Japan's a different rating."

They just don't make money off of imports, If they don't want to translate it or ship it over seas because they are afraid of low sails then don't that doesn't mean you have to region lock it it's not really hurting you. There are some people who do want it and are willing to ignore language barriers and pay extra to import it.
