It won't support blu-ray. They will do things like Netflix to stream videos.

No, it's been confirmed Wii U does NOT have BluRay playback functionality. DVD playback would be like... no extra work for the developers, so I don't see why not. But in all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if they make their own media format.
I'm confident I read somewhere that they are going to be creating their own format of compact disc.

Besides that, they are going to use their own format once again, 25gb discs of some sorts.

here in sweden, the average family sees movies on dvd's so i would say yes.

It will have the physical capacity to play Blu-Rays. (Blu-Ray laser) But it will need special software in order to decode it properly. (Obtained through homebrew)

alright but people have dvd players, or a computer, laptop, xbox/ps, even digital tv boxes sometimes come with dvd players.here in sweden, the average family sees movies on dvd's so i would say yes.
+ having a separate dvd player means some1 can be playing a game on the Wii U while some1 else watches a dvd
As u say, the average family watches dvd's which implies they already have something set up that is able to play the dvd's.

Yes. I don't want to have to turn off my Wii U to watch movies. Its all about convenience. Besides, imagine how cool it would be to be able to watch movies on the Wii U padtroller while someone else uses the TV.do u honestly need it to be able to play dvd's though?

Fair point I guess, and I guess there's no actual downside to adding dvd support. I still wouldn't use it thoughYes. I don't want to have to turn off my Wii U to watch movies.
