Are you able to play old Wii games, like Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii U tablet, or only on the TV?

You need to consider the IR sensor. How are you going to use the Wii Remote on the Wii U GamePad?

Probably only on the tv as the wii u gamepad is not a wii controller. You are likely going to need to get a wii remote and nunchuck for wii compatiblity if you haven't got one already. Difficult to swing the gamepad about.

i hope so, but games that rely on motion won't. maybe the games that are compatible with classic controller will only be available. there's no reason to suggest not.
it would be a cool feature.

Nintendo has always sucked with backwards compatibility. You can probably expect some sort of accessory like the gameboy player for the gamecube.

Gamecube compatibility is simply provided by paying for downloadable games. The wii U is 100% compatible with wii and the wii is basically a gamecube ran at 50% greater speed with more memory bolted on. The only extra thing Nintendo have to do is integrate either the wii u gamepad or normal wii controllers as the control device for gamecube games. Probably a 5 minute job.

I like the idea of windwaker as a download that is available to play when ever I want without having to find the disc. It would be nice though if Nintendo make the effort to make these gamecube games high definition compatible but I'm sort of expecting them to take the easy route and just have them running via the wii gpu contained in the wii u so likely 480p output only.

Really? And here I thought they were the best.
