Two days ago Nintendo showcased their new console at E3, the Wii U. During the conference games such as Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition, ZombiU, and Nintendo Land were showcased as huge titles coming to the platform. The conference was running pretty well despite a few casual games being shown, but then the console just sort of, ended. This caused so many mixed reactions between the people who were attending and watching the conference. People were expecting to blown away with a new title that was so hardcore and awesome, they were expecting the lead of Retro Studios to come out on stage and announce something amazing like Metroid Prime 4. This, to much dismay, did not happen. This caused the audience to dislike the conference, going so far as to say that it was the worst conference of E3. I, however, do not agree.

The conference was well thought out, except for the very end, and kept me excited for a large portion of the presentation. Now that is not saying that they couldn't have done better with what they had a their disposal, in fact, they could have done ten times better. First of all, I would have kept every casual game limited to a quick appearance on the screen with a mention. Example, "And even though we are set on trying to bring the audience of the 'core' gamer to the Wii U, we still have games such as SiNG, and Wii Fit U." Now the time that was spent with those originally would instead focus on Game & Wario, and Assassins Creed III. Finally, at the end where Reggie points out "one more thing", that is when you through out a quick trailer for Project P-100 set to some really pumping music, followed by a quick montage of every game confirmed for Wii U and have Reggie say something along the lines of, "Thank you for coming out today, and I hope you are looking forward to all of the game on Wii U", as every logo appears behind him.

That's what I would have done differently, what do you think?
(P.S. I really liked how it was anyway...)

For us the confrence sucked. For the "casual" gamers it was amazing, the "casual" gamers are the people who Nintendo really needs to target at the moment. (We "hardcore" gamers are already sold, Nintendo sucked us in last year.)
As I said before, Nintendo really needs to try hard to make the "casual" gamers to want to get the Wii U. And sadly, the only way to do this is to bring back "casual" games from the Wii such as Wii Fit.

This is why the confrence was focused on "casual" games.

I say it was focused on "casual" gamers because it's the best choice business wise; investors love "casual" games because they appeal to a larger market and is the best way to kick start a console commercially.

I agree with what you said for the most part, but I still think that it didn't cause the conference to be lost. During the hour long conference we saw about three "casual" games that were showcased, but the rest of the games that were shown such as Mass Effect 3, ZombiU, and New Super Mario Bros. U really got my blood pumping. Now I am by no means a "casual" gamer, but I still enjoyed the conference.

Was it the worst conference to me? No I did not really have a worst conference as the only conferences I watched ( Nintendo, Sony and Ubisoft) were all great to me. I would have liked it if Nintendo gave a quick trailer out for Game & Wario or P-100 or maybe a shout out for Kirby's 20th Anniversary and the upcoming Kirby Wii collection, but I think other than the short amount of time that was given 3DS section ( which is understood as the main focus for the conference was for the Wii U) I think the conference was great.

Most disappointing conference I have seen in a long time. I was counting on this to convince me a Wii U is worth purchasing, like so many Nintendo fans keep telling me, but it has only justified my doubts even further. Not only did they neglect the 3DS only mentioning it briefly with little new info to offer but they failed to show anything of the Wii U that would attract the sales of anyone but casuals and the Nintendo fans that had already decided they would buy the system before it was even announced.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

well, it certainly was disappointing for someone who was expecting huge news (like people wanting a trailer for ssb4 lololol, i pity them) it was "meh" at best, but it certainly wasnt the worst conference in a long time (that award still belongs to the kinect conferences, nintendo 08 and the reveal of ps3)

Here's Nintendo's explanation about the e3 show.
Why they picked what they showed etc.
