I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect

For causal gamers, yes it will. I believe that iPhone and Android has already taken over the causals right now.
I think Mario Bros and Pokemon sales would like a word with that. :T
To be honest, I don't think handheld devices aren't going anywhere. As it so turns out, most people that buy Smartphones and Tablets are buying them not to play games, but for actually being phones or work devices. Then there's the matter of this... http://virtualboyzni...iware-then-ios/
So long as Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon for their handheld, it isn't going anywhere. Heck, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 have both sold over six million copies. Pokemon Black and White combined sales? Over 14 million. Even Ocarina of Time has surpassed the two million sold mark. And at $40/$30 a piece...the gross profit on these games is $980,000,000. 20 Million short of a Billion Dollars.
I know that the $980 Million isn't the amount Nintendo themselves get, but even if they only got 1/4th of that, that's still almost 250 million dollars from four games, not including system sales at that.
tl;dr: Nintendo is making WAY too much money from their handhelds to go extinct anytime soon.

Just saying that looking at today's market. Atleast here in Sweden, nobody plays 3DS or DS. They play on their phones. But that's causal gamers who just plays games to kill time.
Pokémon isn't causal D: imo atleast considering evs, ivs, nature and stuff like that. RPGs aren't often considered causal.

I consider pokemon a more casual game because it's focused at younger children and people with spare time. Sure, it has its serious players and tournaments, but it's more for the younger crowd and can appeal to anybody.
I personally don't like using the "casual and hardcore" terminology, as it's rather up in the air in terms of what they really mean. but I feel that pokemon fits the casual crowd.
Also, the "here in Sweden" part of this is more anecdotal evidence. Maybe you just don't see them play it where you live, but that doesn't mean that absolutely no-one in Sweden has one.

Nobody I know that isn't a geek plays the only games they ever play on their smartphones though. I don't think a normal guy would have two devices with them if they can already play "causal" games that kill their time on their smartphone.
