So all the talk and excitement surrounding the Wii U...has anyone seen any mention of it being Region Locked? I'd assume it would be since Nintendo is usually anti-region free...but just saying. What are your thoughts? Do you care? Can Nintendo surprise us?

Most like it will be locked. But Its possible they will be region free just because the size of the disc and such. region locking doesnt really prevent anything except for making it not possible to play games from japan and such. but no security is added or removed by region locks so hopefully we will see region free this time around

Well said. I understand Why, but I still find it stupid. I don't think Sony looses sleep over it. If anything...for importer's like myself it can be a deal breaker. I'm getting a Wii U regardless, but I know plenty of guys who wouldn't if It's region locked.

Now the gamecube had a region unlocking disc...I wouldn't mind the swap method...but I'd prefer it unlocked out of the box.

Nintendo like to tightly control distribution of sofware so it will be region locked. A shame because often this leads to people trying to region unlock their console, which can lead on to homebrew and possibly piracy. It's annoying because not all software is released in all regions and sometimes you are prevented from playing something you really want to. Personally I think region locking should be banned its against the free movment of goods and allows one market (i.e. Europe) to be exploited with higher prices.

You know what's funny? Region-Locking was used to control piracy. It absolutely hinders buyers and I completely agree with your statement.

Something in me says that Next Gen will be region free. All the companies are at their lowest point in terms of consoles (I think?) so if they can find a way to make more money, hey, let them!

I'm pretty sure he is talking about ways to play imports on region locked systems...theyes would require hacking the system or Modding rather..to play.
