Hmmm, does anyone have that pretty sensor bar? Would it be worth picking that up for this one?

Thats Japan for you. Cut down on everything. Did the 3ds xl come with a charger? NO.That's a good point.
BUT no wii u console comes with sensor bars in Japan.
Or ALSO, I'm not sure if I'm disproving or proving your point more.
So i dont put it pass them to not include the sensor bar. Hell if the ac adapter is the same they might not include it lol.

Dude the sensor bar sends out Inferred pulses to the Wiimotes for a reference point, nothing else. The pro controller is just like the xbox 360 controller, and so is the gamepad.i think yes it is, because the pad and the pro controller are wireless so you need the sensor bar to connect em with the console
The Wii U Pro controller is wireless and will have around 30ft (10 M) of range
