Maybe they actually mean 720p but upscaled to 1080p?

I'm getting some srs mixed messages.

This. Maybe they just recently upscaled it up to 1080p?

Hmm Its either a typo, actually 1080p or Nintendo doesn't know what 1080p actually means and assumes all hd is 1080p .

Yeah that's the thing, "native" or "true" 1080p means it's not upscaled, "full 1080p" is not a solid confirmation of true 1080p status. They can claim full 1080p if it's upscaled - I'd like to know if it's native 1080p or if it's upscaled.

We'll see eventually I guess. Personally, I don't care much, but a better looking game is never a bad thing.

More than likely, there just happened to be enough time to bump up the resolution before the game goes gold master.

Nintendo knows what 1080P is. LOL

And some launch ports are confirmed 1080P also.

It's amazing how people are complaining about it being better even though Nintendo said it wouldn't be in the past lmao jk

1080p AMAZING!!!

Who cares?
It's a 2D Mario game.
Does anyone really care what resolution it's at so long as the gameplay is the same?

Well technically its a 2d mario game but with 3d polygons so Resolution does matter it making everything clearer .

I am pretty sure you word isn't the word of everybody . And yes 1080p resolution isn't a must but I prefer being able to see the character on for TV instead of seeing jittery blocks(note not talking about 8 bit mario I'm talking about low resolution screens) that kinda looks like the character its displaying.

Or is it just me?

Depends on how large screen you have.

lololololol
Firstly, 1080p would just make the screen bigger, forcing the characters to appear smaller. The opposite of what you say you want.
Secondly, did you last play a NES? Mario games don't look jittery.

/facepalm
I was referring to modern mario games on 1080p Tvs in SD and how they(and all other videos games in SD) Looks like a bunch jittery pixels(the term jittery is just responding to the person in motion ). I would just prefer to see a clear image of my environment instead of a pixelated one. Note: Running it in 720p it doesn't at least with my screen size do what I said above I was just using an example to explain why higher resolution are better to have and like I said a couple of post above its not a must but its something that really helps with the overall look of the game.

(gif taken from neogaf as a example)

This is going from 720p to 1080p( I believe its 720p to 1080p but it kinda looks like how 480p looks on my television instead of 1080p)

NSMBW looks fine on my hdtv, but then I use a component cable with my wii.
