Not a big deal, I love the setting up process. Plus I have pretty fast internet so it's cool. I think I have 25 mbps up/down, and get usually get speeds of around 2.5 MB/s on wireless downloads, wired is faster of course.

I hate updates, I remember when I bought the 3DS and I had to update the system for the online functions, that update took like half of an hour. Oh well, at least the eshop and the other online things are in the launch, not like the 3DS.

Lol yeah that's what I was thinking though these features are coming much sooner for the Wii U; the 3DS took months to get the eShop and web browser update.

Why does everyone keep telling me to? I even added a sig for the whole "easier to distinguish" thing.

This isn't too big an issue, anyone who owns a 360/PS3 should be used to updates to patch the console. Hopefully Ninty can do it better than either of the 2 & not screw things up ;p

It's nice since then people who don't use online features doesn't need to waste space on something they don't need I guess.

Everyone seems to be missing the obvious. The reason its a day-one update is due to manufacturing, as the Wii U you buy on launch day may have been manufactured months ago.

Even if the stock firmware already has this functionality included, its going to have been improved in the meantime and thus you get a day-one firmware update.

Would you rather them increase the price of the console so that they can set up a production line JUST to update to the latest firmware before shipping? Something which would also cause stock shortages for no good reason? That would make no sense at all.

I don't find this pointless. They do this because they know that not everyone will use the Wii U online features.

This. My uncle for example owns a Wii and my 9y/o cousin a 3DS but they don't care about online at all. They wouldn't even bother to create a Ninty ID.

Well, at least this will show everyone how to update on day one, and as someone already said this means they could start manufacturing consoles and boxing them up and continue to work on MiiVerse and other features right up to launch.

Not true, and even if it is then you should have no problem distinguishing me. I never got around to it because I'm usually more of a lurker than anything and regardless, I don't feel like doing something "because everyone else is". Heck, we're on a Nintendo gaming forum. Plus this is rather off topic.

I've already explained. Mix between being a lurker and not caring enough to do it. And thanks, even though I was kinda lazy with it.

This is it without the games and logos. And an extra zigzagoon. Was gonna use it on the 3DS Forums but never could figure out what to do to get rid of the empty space, besides make a trainer card... which wouldn't use the 3DS FC anyways. Meh.
