Be careful when you pause a Wii U game - it just might cost you.

Nintendo's new system features an 'automatic shutoff' feature, which turns off the system "if there has been no input for a set period of time," according to the system's manual. Here's the catch - a lack of input is still counted when a game is running and paused. We know - we had the system shut off on us when we left the system alone and came back after 90 minutes. System - off. Game progress - lost. By default, this option is activated, and appears to be set to activate after an hour, as we painfully learned.

All is not lost, however. This is able to be adjusted within the system options. You can turn the feature off entirely, or simply adjust the range of 'idle time' the system needs to register. All in all it's not a big deal - unless you don't know it exists. Then you might find yourself replaying a significant portion of a game, as we just did.

At first, I was pretty mad at this, because I have (no doubt) paused a game for more than 90 minutes. But, after I read the last paragraph, I realized it really isn't a problem for me, because you can just switch it off.

I can actually see this being a useful feature for anyone who has young children. I remember leaving my systems on for hours on end while I was away doing something else when I was younger. I actually left my PS2 on over night by accident once. I'm surprised I haven't had a system overheat on me yet.

I'm probably gonna turn this off, but it could be usefull. I once left my Wii running for two days straight because I would forget to turn it off...it said I played Brawl for 48 hours that day...

I was ticked off when I first heard this. But it's like Xbox360 (although it's not default). On parental controls, you can set a timer to when the Xbox shuts itself off. Neat, but I think people that don't know a lot about the Wii U will be mad when they leave for a bit and see it turned off when they were on a boss. XD

This was probably implemented to prevent the console from overheating, still I don't like it.
