With such a high number of pre-orders for the Wii U, there’s simply no way retailers like GameStop can keep up with the demand at this point. GameStop’s waiting list SKU was meant to help people make sure they could get the console as soon as it became available again, but the demand is too great even for that strategy. If you are on the Wii U waiting list and you have not already received a call from GameStop informing you of the change, you likely will soon, as the Wii U will soon only be available on a first come first serve basis.

I can guess this will be catastrophic in the long run due to very angry customers.

That's not a good decision. It's just going to result in people hating GameStop even more than they already are hated, and tons upon tons of enraged customers. Though I wonder, how many people were on the waiting list until GameStop finally said " forget this."?

Interesting. I wonder if demand has spiked a little now more people have seen it in real life. If the waiting list is still growing a week after release, that has to be a good sign for Nintendo, right?

Well think of it like this. Say 20 people a day come in and get added to the waiting list and they only get 5-10 a week. The ratio of people added vs people getting one is so far apart that eventually there's gunna be like 1000 people waiting and it could take like two years to get yours. In that time there's a better chance of you finding one at Walmart or something.

Meh. The way i see it is, if you really wanted the console you would have found a way to preorder it. And yes i realise some people will have excuses like " i didnt have the cash" or "mum wouldn't let me because im 12" etc but big companies only care about selling consoles not about your problems.

White versions are much easier to find. I casually walked into the first Walmart I found locally and found 6 white units. They were reserving black units though, so I casually went over to the best buy across the parking lot to see if they had any black units... nope but they had 2 white units for sale.

Well, GoNintendo has made an article saying Gamestop won't cancel the waiting list, but they're not accepting anymore people.

That makes more sense, no reason for people to get angry for no reason. Just a waiting list, not preorders. But it is understandable... Gamestops tend to be small and probably can't get shipped so many at a time.
