Please forgive my newbieness, but I'm new to both Wii and WIi U, and I've purchased a Wii U for my four-year-old son (not to mention myself) this Christmas. I think he would love Wii Sports Resort, and wouldn't care that it's old, so I'm considering getting that plus a couple of Wii Remote Pluses. But I'm not sure if I should hold off for a similar style game on Wii U that might supersede this one. Has any such game been announced? I heard there's an ESPN sports game for Wii U but it isn't very good, so I'll pass on that one.

Also, there's no reason to believe that the original Wiimotes will be rendered obsolete on Wii U, is there? I mean, I know they're compatible but I'm hoping they'll still be actively supported.

Thanks for the help!

(I also bought a copy of New Super Mario Bros. U, because that looks awesome.)

Why not get him Mario Sports Mix or Mario Tennis both for the Wii? Mario Tennis is a Nintendo select for $20! If you do however want Wii Sports Resort, I'd certainly recommend that.

For the Wii U, a game I would recommend is Sonic Allstars Racing and its considerably cheap at $40.

Thank you for the reply! Is there any consensus on Mario Sports Mix vs. Wii Sports Resort? Or are they just different...?

They're definitely different games. I'd recommend reading up on some reviews.
