Nintendo Network undergoing 'emergency maintenance' !

Just been reading this,

The maintenance will affect a number of Nintendo Network functions including the online Wii U and 3DS eShops, the DSi Shop and Wii Shopping Channel.
The outages will also affect network services for Pokemon Black and White 1 and 2, and ranking/matchmaking functionality for Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper on Wii U.

"During the emergency maintenance, parts of the affected services may be intermittently unavailable," said Nintendo.

The nature of the 'emergency' went undisclosed.

I woke up this morning, and I booted up my Wii U, and played it for a few hours. After that gameplay, I browsed the forums a bit, went on chat for a bit... And then, I heard my mailbox close, obviously implying I should go get the mail. I got up, then walked outside. Oddly, it looked like it was nighttime... It was almost pitch black outside. I felt an...ominous...feeling inside my stomach. I slowly tilted my head upward... What I saw, oh, what I saw:

I wonder what they mean by emergency.
