outrageous in price?

My college has all of their books waaaay overpriced. I feel sorry for the idiots that pay 200 or 150 dollars for one book. For those who attend college, what sites do you use to rent your books from?

"Please don't buy the books. I wasted SO much money on books that I never even opened. One was still in the plastic wrapper when I went to sell it back to the bookstore at the end of the semester and they STILL would only give me 10% of the original cost of the book back.

Email your professors. Ask which books are needed first. Rent them if you can, go to the on campus library and CHECK THEM OUT. You can renew all semester in most cases. See if your school has ILL (interlibrary loan) in which case you can borrow the book from another college library and they will send it to you at your college. SHARE books with other classmates.

Seriously, I only used my books for classes related to my major. And even some of those I barely touched. ---http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110809194809AALoLJ4

I agree for the most part on all of this, but on ther other hand I only buy books if they are books that I will keep for years, but they will be older and much cheaper versions.

I rent them from the little book store down the road from my college, its significantly cheaper than the schools prices but still quite ridiculous, however im in my 2nd semester now and so far every professor has had the "required text books" and ive litterallly only had to use one $10 work booklet so far.... all the rest have been a big fat waste of cash....

I used to buy used.. Or borrow and such.. But I realized that that would result in a waste of money so I just began torrenting the majority of my textbooks. I wasn't providing profit either way. Meh. (use my Kindle to read them and whatever)

http://www.knetbooks.com/

I've actually found two of the required textbooks I need from here for dirt cheap, renting both of them, the total came up to close to 50 dollars. If were to buy my books in my college bookstore I would of been raped.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

I do the same thing. At 3rd year levels textbooks are good for additional information. First year textbooks are alwase a good keep in my opinion. At least in sciences, one should alwase have a Calculus, Physics, Bio, and Chem book, and geology for me. Once a while you will find a good textbook that covers your specific study. For example for me it was Atmospheric Science: An Introductory Survey.

Bah I got off track. Basically first year, it might be worth it to buy your textbooks like off amazon to save some money. All other years borrow from your College Library or just go to your lectures as if you have a good prof they will cover everything you will need to know.

I only pay in full for textbooks that I either really need or really want (because I do enjoy a good textbook). Going at it like this will save you a lot of money. With the other books you don't really care for, but need for a class, just rent them. My university also has a Facebook group where students sell each other their books for significantly lower prices. You can try to ask around to see if something like that exists. Lastly, a few sites sell older editions of required texts for very low prices (like less than $10). If you don't mind using an earlier edition, you can go that approach. Some older editions, I find superior to the current ones anyway (especially with math textbooks).

Yeah, and as mentioned, your library might supply what you're looking for.
